I was wondering...
I adored all of their singles/ep. An amazing NY band that I am often thinking about. Where are they? Why haven't they released anything since the comp in 2001 on Roomtone?
i need more info please!

Good question! I loved the stuff that they put out on Duophonic. Wow. Forgot about them.

Yeah, their compilation cd was fun. Almost like indie rock musique concrete!

I know they did a remix a couple of years ago on the Numbers remix album "Death."

yeah... but where are they now? they held so much promise for me. A lot of their music still sends chills down my spine. Beautiful stuff. Seems like I shame that they'd end it all in the late 90s.

I was in Dymaxion for a bit under a year, & can tell you that they work rather slowly. Both Claudia Newell (who wrote all the material for the first incarnation of Dymaxion, including about half the stuff on the Roomtone comp, but left the band & basically stopped doing music altogether considerably before the CD came out) and Jeremy Novak (who wrote the other half of the stuff on the CD, and has since been carrying on the Dymaxion name with a rotating cast) are some of the most amazing, creative musicians I've had the pleasure of working with.

The U.S. and Japanese versions of the CD comp are slightly different--the Japanese one has a neat live version of "Cat-Periscope" and doesn't include a couple of tracks that appeared on compilations (I think "Chase Scene W/ Transistor Radio" is one of them).

There's also a live cassette that came out in very limited numbers a few years ago--they sent me a copy of it ('cause I played on some of it), but it got crushed in the mail...

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 15 August 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

My exposure to them comes mainly via Trattoria Records, who released their Japanese stuff, but I'm mainly referring to the 'Maxi On!' EP which teamed them with Mrs Cornelius, Takako Minekawa, and is very skilful.

haha holy shit, I had no idea Takako Minekawa was married to Keigo

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 15 August 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

I hear their son, Meiro, is destined to be the greatest musical genius of the 21st century ;-).

Momus (Momus), Monday, 15 August 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh my! It's Momus AGAIN!!! Plugging himself of course. Momus please if you have an answer to the question posed above by all means answer but do we need more of your hopeless self promotion! Put out a good album like you used to. And let us figure out the whereabouts of our beloved Dymaxion!

thought dymaxion was going to be putting something out on tigerbeat 6, but all that ever came was a remix of the band Numbers.

johnny and luther (johnny and luther), Monday, 22 August 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

six years pass...

They played at Amnesia in SF last night with a new member Jared of Blanketship handling the samples. Loose but interesting to see them as a rock band playing the recordings like a score. Hope they play more, or at least finish another record.
