So, both have their singles out, and the NME getting all keen...

Um, is this a scrap to see who gets to number nine? At the most?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 15 August 2005 07:52 (twenty years ago)

blow, blow me out i am so sad i don't know why

N_RQ, Monday, 15 August 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

Pardon my Yankee-ness, but i guess this means that Pete Doherty is out of the Libertines for good? If so, bummer. I quite like the Libertines.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 15 August 2005 08:04 (twenty years ago)

what is this round one bollocks? theyre not fighting it out, their singles are just out on the same day. its not like blur vs oasis again.

ok, Monday, 15 August 2005 08:18 (twenty years ago)

That Justin Hawkins' single is FUCKING SHITE!

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Monday, 15 August 2005 08:21 (twenty years ago)

SHOCKAH!

N_RQ, Monday, 15 August 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I know, but astonishingly shite and pointless and downright lazy

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Monday, 15 August 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

Sparks are totally approving of it though - even appearing in the video with him.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 15 August 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

Umm, Sparks "approved" of that rubbish Faith No More version, even singing on it.

Everyone who buys this, would rather have the Sparks version.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 15 August 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

Most people who will buy this will probably never have heard of the Sparks version (cf. Fugees/Roberta Flack).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 15 August 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

Can I let you into a secret? If it becomes a hit, they make money, they have families + mortgages... shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Monday, 15 August 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

Sparks have families?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

The Maels didn't just fall out of the sky from Mars, you know.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

The Maels are all Male

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

The Maels have a quite nice house in the Hollywood Hills and would I am sure not mind extra cash for recording costs for the next album.

Various folks on the Sparks list have spoken favorably of the remake; I myself rather violently disagree.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 August 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

I gave both these singles 0 in the Stylus jukebox.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

"The Maels have a quite nice house in the Hollywood Hills and would I am sure not mind extra cash for recording costs for the next album."

You mean these two (I would imagine) reasonably wealthy brothers; both of whom are in their fifties; actually live together all the time in the same house?

Do they go on holiday together too?

Is it just me, or does anyone else find this vaguely disturbing?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Not as disturbing as Justin Hawkins, obv.; but reasonably disturbing nonetheless.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

like the barclay brothers, really. or the chuckle brothers, perhaps.

N_RQ, Monday, 15 August 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

The things you learn when you run the Sparks mailing list as I have for a decade (!) now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Do you live in the house with them?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

No, that would be strange. (At least one listmember did visit the house as he works with computers and Russell had some problem with his that needed a fix.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

"No, that would be strange."

Unlike two (I would imagine) reasonably wealthy brothers; both of whom are in their fifties; actually living together all the time in the same house - which is obviously entirely normal - you mean?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Sparks should cameo in the next series of Joey

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 15 August 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Where I come from no one knows who the hell either Pete or Justin is, luckily.

mimi)), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

The Fly Will Change Your Life

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Much as Herr Hawkins is a Dickrancher, he's already put out at least 4 times as many good songs as Doherty.

I Ain't No Addict, Whoever Heard of a Junkie as Old as Me? (noodle vague), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

(NB according to midweeks Doherty is winning, though not as much as McFly. Hawkins is also doing OK, albeit less OK than Iron Maiden)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

Heheheh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

So, Doherty and McFly are both doing better than Blunt.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 07:07 (twenty years ago)

eight months pass...
Fuck forever got to number four. British Whale to number 6.

Just to complete this old thread I found...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 15 May 2006 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Oh I was reading it as if it was new. I thought Sparks were involved in that Up Yours Germany song.
