Do we need a new Just Blaze thread?

As far as i could see, JB's recent work got just a few mentions in various threads over the past year, but he hasn't had a thread of his own since 2002.

I just thought he deserved it with all the great stuff he's been doing, starting with 'Breathe' and then just putting out one banger after another - The Game's 'Church For Thugs', Fat Joe's 'Safe 2 Say (Da Incredible)', and.. umm.. I'm sure there was something else, heh. But anyway, he's great.

Oh, and the whole giving-props-and-possibly-beats-to-underground-rappers thing (yeah, DOOM, but also Copywrite) is also nice of him.

So, thread-worthy or not?

joe > copy > game >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> doom

blaze is the only new york producer worth a shit nowadays but puttin all his weight behind saigon is a mistake, made some hot songs but dude is a bitch and his eventual debut is gon be double styrofoam

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

Nah it'll do better than that, it has enough nerd rap hype already.

Joe > Doom > Game > Copy

thasss right.

deej.., Monday, 15 August 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

saigon says 'fuck the south', he is gonna be joe budden's joe budden

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

when is saigon's record coming out?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

When the hype is sufficiently fermented, and Saigon is gonna outsell our boy Budden.

deej.., Monday, 15 August 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

where the fuck is the buzz anyway, all i ever see is references to this street hype but nobody actually clamin dude is the GOAT or what the fuck ever

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

i actually copped his 1st rawkus 12" waaaaaaaaay before any of this hype bullshit just at random cuz it was a new alchemist track

3, Monday, 15 August 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

was that the one with the track where he asked all those multiple choice questions? i have that 12 inch.....i remember liking it alot.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

3 in hating on indie MCs non-shockah

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

"what?! i put copywrite higher than game!!"

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Actually I got the impression 3 had been unusually favourable to indie MCs of late...

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

saigon says 'fuck the south', he is gonna be joe budden's joe budden
-- 3 (...), August 15th, 2005

haha

strng hlkngtn, Monday, 15 August 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

yeah you're right, that was actually why I corrected myself, kinda regretted the remark 'cause his blog is pretty kind to indie southern stuff lately but it's just when it's a guy like doom who's sorta overtly weird & off-kilter you just know 3 is gonna crack down hard on that shit

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Monday, 15 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

underground != indie

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

point taken, but the terms do intersect I think

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

no, they do, but you know as well as i do in many genres "indie" connotes a certain kind of aesthetic

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

an aesthetic i call "that shit that 3 will straight hate on should the opportunity present itself"

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

safe 2 say just might be the best beat of the year

Doom > Copy/Game > Joe

Just Blaze is consistently good but I've never heard anything from him I thought was really great.

Some Guy, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

Maybe Oh Boy.

Some Guy, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

saigon is a friend of a friend. i only have a mixtape of his and i've only listened to it like twice. but i wish him well!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

actually I used to be surprised how much credit 3 gives Doom generally! but now I'm more surprised that he put him below Game.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 04:04 (twenty years ago)

some guy off the money, see free - "cross the line", "what we do"; nore, peedi crakk - "niggarican"

that new foxy brown hendrix-sampling beat kinda sucks. beanie's "bread and butter" i'm still fond of. nobody (except me) ever cared much for janet's "love me" - its not terrific, but its got a thick, sticky sound that i like. i think blaze has been a little uneven this year. i heard a saigon promo thing (i dunno how legit it was, it sounded quite poorly mixed), and the beat were actually boring as fuck for the most part. saigon himself's just okay.

jermaine (jnoble), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

five months pass...
I was listening to my freeway record this morning and got all nostalgic for 3 years ago when it seemed like every single one of his songs was a fucking killer... anyways, I've been out of the loop for a while - what have been his highlights of the past year or so?? Has this saigon record actually been released??

dave k, Saturday, 11 February 2006 16:11 (twenty years ago)

recent and great digi-Blaze beat: Fabolous feat. Billionaire "Get It Poppin'"

Mind Taker, Saturday, 11 February 2006 16:49 (twenty years ago)

"Bread and butter" was a grower. "The letter p remix" by Saigon & Kool G. Rap is the other big beat Just Blaze has had in recent times.

Saigon's recent interviews have been even more annoying than his old ones. Just Blaze should give his beats to Black Rob instead.

That "brand new" joint by Rhymefest shoulda been given to 'Puba and Datty X for a "brand nu" joint 'cause that Rhymefest nigga is wack as fuck.

LARRY O FROM REAL LIVE, Saturday, 11 February 2006 18:49 (twenty years ago)

but yeah letter p remix is hot. anybody heard whoo kid's kool g tape??? still got lyrics but needs to rap on hotter shit than generic 1999 nyc tracks - if i was blaze id surrender all beat tapes to dude & get him to choose 13 for a new LP

,,,, Saturday, 11 February 2006 18:50 (twenty years ago)

cosign!! rhymefest is aight but sadat on that... damn

,,, Saturday, 11 February 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

tho i dont see puba & sadat ever touchin the charts again unless they spit on the next gorillaz or some shit

,,, Saturday, 11 February 2006 18:52 (twenty years ago)

That "heavy metal" joint on that 'G Rap/Whoo Kid mixtape is even gayer than "teh polo club" from "wanted dead or alive".

"The streets"/"first nigga" DJ Premier remix/"thug for life" 12" on Rawkus was the last thing ' G Rap did that was actually worth paying $$ for.

LARRY O FROM REAL LIVE, Saturday, 11 February 2006 18:54 (twenty years ago)

first nigga premo mix is dope but cmon heavy metal is not bad for a gza style concept joint, easily >>>> the polo club - 'pearl handle shit, but never see the pearl jam'

,,, Saturday, 11 February 2006 18:56 (twenty years ago)

i actually dropped $$$ on this-

"X Man" was my shit.

LARRY O FROM REAL LIVE, Saturday, 11 February 2006 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Haha. That was wack but there was that promo ep doodad of G Rap + Ma Barker freestyles that was fresh. Tht freestyle over "just fire" was bananas.

LARRY O FROM REAL LIVE, Saturday, 11 February 2006 19:04 (twenty years ago)

ma barker was g raps wifey or some shit right

,,, Saturday, 11 February 2006 19:08 (twenty years ago)

she should battle ms melodie over "the bridge"

,,, Saturday, 11 February 2006 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it's his wife.

"Cock it back" and "Ka ching" by Datty and Hy Tymes aka them Money Boss Players niggas off that Sadat X ep were also fuckin' ill.

I need to break that out.

Anybody here got an mp3 of "queens lounge" by Large Professor ??

I need to listen to that but i don't even think i got that original boot of the Large Pro lp anymore.

LARRY O FROM REAL LIVE, Saturday, 11 February 2006 19:28 (twenty years ago)

it was pretty wack anyway

,,, Saturday, 11 February 2006 19:33 (twenty years ago)

I liked the LP! Its very pleasant. I'm not at home but I can upload that when I get home. "Dancing Girl" is my shit.

Also didn't Kanye do the bet to "Brand New"? I think the Just Blaze beat was for "Dynomite"

deej..., Saturday, 11 February 2006 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Kanye did it. I was just thinking about Brand Nubian since "bread and butter" was mentioned.

The 3 12"s from the Large Pro lp were all great but the only other track from the lp i can remember now is "queens lounge".

Thanks.

LARRY O FROM REAL LIVE, Saturday, 11 February 2006 21:18 (twenty years ago)
