Baltimora - Tarzan Boy
Ryan Paris - Dolce Vita (great record!)
Spagna - Call Me
Sabrina - Boys (Summertime Love)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

but sabrina had more hits after that one, and culture beat lasted more than one summer...

arbion, Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Sabrina's follow-up "All Of Me" reached #25 in October 1988. I challenge anyone to sing it from memory without looking it up on slsk or similar.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

It was a hit in May, but I always think of Owen Paul's 'My favourite waste of time' as the summer hit of 86.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Culture Beat had a second hit, "Got to Get It".

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

And it was just as big as "Mr. Vain" at the time, though "Mr. Vain" is probably what they'll always be remembered for.

My vote goes for "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something. That song's deeply ingrained in my memories of the summer of 1996, a memorable one to me for several reasons. That was also the summer of "Wannabe".

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

The Connells- 74/75

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Culture Beat also had a third, fourth, fifth and sixth hit - Anything, World In Your Hands, Inside Out and Crying In The Rain respectively.

Back in '86 there was Brother Louie by Modern Talking.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

The First Picture Of You by the Lotus Eaters - stopped at #15 in 1983 due to disastrous decision by TOTP producer to obscure group with Legs and Co dancing to something else entirely in front of them.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Culture Beat also had a third, fourth, fifth and sixth hit - Anything, World In Your Hands, Inside Out and Crying In The Rain respectively.

'Anything' >>>>> 'Mr Vain'

'Got To Get It' was really annoying.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Does Seaside Shuffle by Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs (#2 on its second release, 1972) count even though it was really Jona Lewie?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Diana King 'Shy Guy'

I'm sure she had at least one follow up single (maybe a cover?) but barely anyone would remember it surely.

mox twelve (Mox twleve), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

I can actually remember the 'All of me wants all of you' part of Sabrina's follow-up now but no more than that and this is only because of Alex's prompting.

What about that slacker dude with the "I'm a loser everyone should kill me" thing that sampled Dr John? Remember seeing it on TOTP just before Britpop.
