Do people outside the Netherlands know them? I thought their last album (2004) was really good, Burt Bacharach meets Broadcast, almost.

i just ordered it yesterday - i didn't even know it existed, partly thanks to not having a north american label

i am surprised that bauer is not an indie hit

i found him on accident a while ago through distant connection with solex
i like 'starting a war with dolphins' best

fifteen years pass...

Revive? Revive! So, Bauer started out as a duo with Berend Dubbe and Sonja van Hamel, then Dubbe solo after the first three albums. I have two of their albums, Baueresque (2004), and Eyes Fully Open (2016), both with some good stuff of the chamber pop variety. Dubbe also does soundtrack work and has recently started a weekly podcast on Mixcloud called "It's Sooo Different" ( https://www.mixcloud.com/Itssooodifferent/ ). He's a big fan of Burt Bacharach and Magma, so you get some of that, some library music, soundtrack music, exotica, tropicalia, and jazz and pop obscurities. He's based in Amsterdam and typically plays at least a couple of Dutch artists each show, so you get a bit of a feel for that scene. Worth checking out if you're looking for an education in any of those areas.
