On the radio today I heard a sick version of this song. It sounded like late 60s, early 70s - very funky but the beat was pretty straightforward rock. The guitar and bass did some kind of syncopated line that hit every up beat. The name announced was something really normal sounding, like James Campbell, or Jim Johnson, so I can't remember it. I went through the entire list of "hound dog"s on Allmusic and none of the names ring a bell.
