I honestly can't make up my mind...

Venetian Snares - Rossz....
Primal Scream - XTRMNTR
Cap'n Jazz - That anthology one
Unrest - Perfect Teeth
Scratch Acid - The Greatest Gift
Wedding Present - Bizarro (the one with the orange cover, not the green...is the new one remastered? is the "old version" sufficient?)
Mouse On Mars - Vulvaland
Mu - either one
Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out

you need unrest and wedding present albums, just not necessarily those ones (although i like them both)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

I fifth Scratch Acid.

Sweat Loaf (Sweat Loaf), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

I saw XTRMNTR in a charidii shop, £3. I didn't need it.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

In all honesty, you could probably get on without any of these.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

Wedding Present, then Mouse on Mars, then Afro Finger and Gel.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

afro finger and gel is a pretty essential release of the last couple of years

rizzx (Rizz), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Do you have other Mouse on Mars records? Vulvaland is very different from all of their other LPs, it's early nineties ambient house/trance/digidub rather than the electro/IDM they later became known for. It's still great, but perhaps only to those who dig those genres and that era.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

Marcello stole my reply! Booh!

Cap'n Jazz - That anthology one

I just didn't *get* this. I think I sold it. Now I regret it because I want to hear again what I missed.

"Mu - either one"

Of the two Mu's, the early-'70s Southern Californian group that included Merrell Fankhauser and Jeff "Antennae Jimmy Semens" Cotton is far more interesting than the current electronica outfit imo....

.... that is what you meant, right?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

I'll vote for Cap'n Jazz, although the 2nd disc is close to useless. First one makes up for it though.

John Justen (johnjusten), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

Scratch Acid and Sleater Kinney

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Dig Me Out is my favorite SK album, can't really comment on the rest of the list.

ryansf (ryansf), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

perfect teeth would be my pick. if you like jangly guitars and refreshing tunes. the only other ones from the list i know are bizarro and xtrmntr though. both i don't consider as the most essential of the bands as someone else said already upthread.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Bizarro and the Scratch Acid one.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

(the one with the orange cover, not the green...is the new one remastered? is the "old version" sufficient?)

Green version = British
Peach version = Yank (appended with three extra tracks, if memory serves).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Dig Me Out. That's the star of that list. XTRMNTR is 2nd.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

All pretty weak, IMO.

Dee Xtrovert (dee dee), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

dude, perfect teeth is worth my weight in gold.

petesmith in NC, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

i will vouch for the unrest (pete's right), scratch acid, wedding present, sleater-kinney, and mu if yer talkin the merrell fankhauser one

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Thursday, 18 August 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

I'll ninth Scratch Acid out of that depressing list.

blunt (blunt), Thursday, 18 August 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)
