What is this Buddy Music ???

Actually, it's a genre I (think I) just made up. It's music you play with your buddies, w/ no hopes of ever selling a copy! The following qualities make it real:
- lack of posturing or fear-of-posturing
- down with a low-fi homemade sensibility
- the sound doesn't exactly fit into another genre
- somewhat silly, yet engaging.

Listen here to some fine & proper examples:
- Fire It Up by The Sunbuddies
- Be There by Bobby Peru
- Dreamers by JBH

Previous Cuts of Certain Influence:
- Buddy by BS2000
- What's The Time (Hey Buddy) by Bow Wow Wow
- Everything by Paris King

Anybuddy down with this movement? Post your own thoughts (or tracks!) here.

i'm glad you finally posted some examples. i'd read about this buddy music in the past and was getting curious. i think the only part that turns me off is the "somewhat silly" part as seems like woulndn't have to be key ingredient. also, mabye just in my circle of friends... i associate the word buddy with the phrase "j.o. buddy" -unfortunately.

Why is that so unfortunate? Adds a lil spice, no?

actually yeah, and i like the idea of jo buddies possibly making buddy music at some point during the activities. i'm not joking.

MySpace Rock

Or is the difference here that Buddy Music purveyors don't even want to attract attention?

Well, besides starting the odd ILM thread, they aren't trying too hard. Registering for MySpace is pretty self-promotional by comparison. Buddies don't actually have a "band" or a gig or a product to promote. They just have these weird tracks they barely remember producing. I dare say that after all other trends are exhausted... the children of tomorrow will be searching for these hidden gems that were never even released commercially.
