lost vagueness and clubs without club music

So a friend of mine went to this and described it thusly:

"it was great: no techno or 'dance' music or even hip hop, just the kind of records you find at the bottom of people's cupboards"

Is this a 'movement' then? Creating fun spaces for people to dress up and take drugs in, and include music but make it non-dancey. I can imagine this being a big thing. what do you think?

is this the absolute worst 'pun' in the history of terrible puns? it sounds awful.

in my house, this is old techno records!

You are unclear. Is this a Guilty Pleasures club night thing or one of these quiet club nights where everyone puts on headphones and dances away inaudibly? Or even Club Silencio out of Mulholland Drive?

funnily enough Lost Vagueness, Guilty Pleasures and the silent disco were all among the best (or at least most 'different') things at Glastonbury this year. there is more stuff like this happening, in London at least - the Whoopee Club and various other neo-burlesque (that's right!) type nights. I heartily approve: at the very least it means that people organise parties in more interesting locations. I woudn't be able to say if this was a particularly new thing though - haven't arty people always dressed up and had parties like this?

As long as it keeps those wankers out of the proper clubs, then I'm all for it!

N_RQ, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

why can't we all just get along?

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

it would be incredibly boring.

I don't even dance on e, where are these places.

yeah the one thing I don't like about lost vagueness is the music, sometimes it's good but after a while the tempo just dies. Maybe the DJs just aren't very good, and maybe there could be better ways to play non club music where it wouldn't get boring after an hour!

I like the general vibe of Lost Vagueness but can't see how you'd replicate it outside of Glastonbury.

They did a whole big weekend lost vagueness event near brighton a week or so ago. Apparently was even better than the glastonbury event. They had a room which people could spank each other in and the results were then projected onto a wall in the main tent. I too am suspicious of their DJs tho I've never been. But personally I'd love to DJ something like this. I think with the right selection you could do an awesome job of it and create a really interesting atmosphere.

I was actually driving through the area and got stuck behind a convoy of VW vans leaving Lost Vagueness last Sunday...
