It's called a megamix now.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

My band played a medley of Big Star's "Thirteen" and VU's "Femme Fatale" a few weeks back in an agressive bid to become the world's most corniest indiest fuxoring band.

My band does a medley of Spencer Davis Group "I'm A Man" -> Talking Heads "Hey Now" -> Lipps Inc. "Funkytown", I don't know what we were bidding to become with that. Tired, I guess.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

And by "my band does", I obviously mean "did in front of those hippies a couple weekends ago".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

For a while I've wanted to do a medley of "Do You Think I'm Sexy?" and "I'm Too Sexy," but I think nickalicious's band might be able to pull it off better.

Not to mention that the Fiery Furnaces have been doing their best to keep medley alive for corny indie fuxxors everywhere (myself included).

Without remembering the FF example offhand, is that "medley" you're talking about or Abbey Road-esque suites? Because medleys have always seemed more like performance devices more than artistic statements to me...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Well, I'd say they do both the traditional medleys (these more in concert) and the suites (more on the recordings).

Destiny's Child was totally in medley mode last night. Prince and R. Kelly do it, too.

latebloomer's rectal mocha latte (latebloomer), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I recall reading that on her last, pre-pregnancy tour, Britney did a medley of her "early" hits (One More Time, Oops etc) in an ironically dismissive "swing" arrangement.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

My band has done a gospel medley of the five or so songs we know that all use the same changes: I'll Fly Away, Down by the Riverside, This Little Light o' Mine, Glory Glory, Jesus on the Mainline, etc.
