Dude, you're fine! 67th's the charm!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 August 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

How many times have you listened to "Say Something", tho?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 August 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

Don't go to 88. You'll travel back in time. But if you want to then go ahead.

The funny thing is that I'm not even generally a Mariah fan but the sheer EARWORMINESS of this is unparalleled to me since "One Thing". I think it's that it sounds like a lost 'Control' era Janet track. Or, more likely, it's because the whole song is one massive build to... well, to the same piano riff that's been playing all along. It's beautifully structured and Mimi rides it perfect. Every other single on the album that I've heard so far is totally shrugworthy but this has been pretty much all I've listened to all day and I just heard it for the first time yesterday!
I'll probably do this for one more day and then never listen to it again. Do you guys do this kind of obsessive listening or is it just me?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 18 August 2005 03:53 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but it usually lasts for a couple of months for me, and it's usually album-wide instead of just fixated on one song. For instance, I just finished up a torrid affair with Mimi in toto, as the EARWORMINESS you attribute to the one song I attribute to the whole damn thing.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 August 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

I can say with total assuredness that I have never listened to a song 66 times in one day on my own volition. Probably not even half that much.

Songs just aren't that good, people.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 18 August 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

Yes they are. I can't remember the last time a song had that effect on me but it has happened.

Roz (Roz), Thursday, 18 August 2005 06:56 (twenty years ago)

wow forktfu, were you actually "actively" listening the whole time?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 18 August 2005 07:02 (twenty years ago)

.. and can Itunes tell?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 August 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

That would be somewhat passive listening, but yeah; it's always in earshot. Still playing this in office. Count is at 74.
I get like this.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 18 August 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

How long is the song? If it's, say, 3:30, you are nearing 4 hours!

Poor old Dr Bill, he isn't a true music fan.

My BFF once made a tape with "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)" on repeat. That fucker should be so happy I'm still friends w/ him.

This song is so awesome.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

After three days, I quit cold turkey and it went away.
Now it's just a pleasant friend I bump into at the gym when I'm deep into that playlist.

My cousin in England told her colleagues she wanted a Mariah Carey birthday cake. They misunderstood, and is the cake they made her instead. It’s Marie Curie, looking very festive. pic.twitter.com/LMHJnMATqD
