Lurker of Chalice

I'm not a huge fan of black metal, but this album which is a side project of San Francisco's Wrest aka Leviathan, is friggin' awesome. Has anybody heard it?

One of my favorites of the year so far. I'm no writer, but I would describe this as ambient black metal; cool apocalyptic voice samples, early 90s ethereal 4AD sounding guitar lines in some songs, weird sound effects scattered to and fro, low-pitched processed vocals, and some really beautiful creepy drones on top of it all. It's an oddly accessible album, it grew on me right away.

Also this is my first thread here - hi, everybody! Now back to lurking for me.

from what i've heard it sounds pretty much like leviathan. which isn't a bad thing.

I'm listening to this right now. It's a fucking beautiful album. I wouldn't say it's much like Leviathan or black metal in general. It's much more mellow. I don't know what to say about it, I love it!

The atmosphere is truly amazing and overwhelming and everything is very, very well done and thought out. A brilliant release not just for black metal fans.

(PS: I have the Total Holocaust Records version)

Anyone else get a Neurosis vibe at times? The beginning of track 3 immediately comes to mind, but that kinda sound pops up occasionally on others.

Anyway, I like this WAY better than any Leviathan I've heard. Maybe I picked the wrong albums to check out (seeing as he has like 20 coming out a week) but the Leviathan material I've heard hasn't done much for me.

And what's the dif. b/w the THR and SL versions of this? (besides the cover)

No difference on the CD version aside from the cover. However I have heard Southern Lord are pressing it on vinyl and it will have a bonus track.
