not technically albums but compilations. also kraftwerk "electric cafe" has a similar sound, just not as classic nor computer-themed

Any Vince Clarke production is pretty heavily Computer World influenced.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Friday, 19 August 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

yellow magic orchestra?

huell howser (chaki), Friday, 19 August 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Comparatively recent and in the blatant rip-off but still appealing category:

Komputer - World of Tomorrow

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 19 August 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Komputer - World of Tomorrow

Seconded. "Blatant rip-off" is almost an understatement, it's like replicating the sound of Computer World is the whole raison d'etre of this thing.

Egyptian Lover-anything
Hashim-Al Naafiysh (The Soul)
Newcleus-I'm not a robot
The Jonzun Crew-Space is the place
Twilight 22-Electric Kingdom
Project Future-Ray-Gun-Omics
Ganymed-Future World
Yello Magic Orchestra-Computer Games

These are songs that should not be too hard to find, also the compilation of french new wave is pretty good, called 'So Young But So Cold'. If you don't mind a little freestyle with new wave, a series called 'The Perfect Beat Vol 1-?.

... not really... well not at all to be honest

Diddyismus (Dada), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

but "Computer Age" is gorgeous nontheless (and that synth-melody is, err, 'kraftwerkian')

willem (willem), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

Well, the album was totally influenced by Kraftwerk, Neil admitted as much, just didn't come out sounding that much like them

Diddyismus the Blind (of Alexandria) (Dada), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

"Transformer Man" is the one to cherish tho!

There is a reason why Kraftwerk are worshipped you know...

The closest you can get is

A Number of Names - Shari Vari

Came out in 1981 and uses the same chords as Computer World. Although it's darker and more stark.

Have you gotten Man Machine?

pappawheelie II, Friday, 19 August 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Actually, of all the new school Electro mentioned, only Anthoiny Rother programs keyboards in the same way K-Work did.

Just d/l some Anthony Rother and see where that leads you.

pappawheelie II, Friday, 19 August 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)
