Early 70s Funk Book?

Can anyone recommend a book that covers the late 60s/early 70s regional funk scene in the US -- the kind of stuff usually reissued by Quanaam and Stones Throw/Now Again? Does such a book exist?

josh davis and dante carfagna have been working on a discography/encyclopedia for ages but who knows if it'll see the light of day? in the meantime, wax poetics mag is worth checking out.

Joeski,

What are you doing for Wax Poetics in the up and coming?

Damned if I didn't look for a book on funk and come up short. I wonder if any of the ego trip dudes would have a good tip on this.
