Think i may have to pick this up since the only other Ramones i got is It's Alive. Does anyone think this is more comic nerd fetish than good overview of their career??? Just wondering if there isn't another better anthology than this out there is all...

Phil Dokes (sunny), Saturday, 20 August 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

Yea. I really need some more Ramones. I only have the debut. Is this the one?

poortheatre (poortheatre), Saturday, 20 August 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

It's $65. I would say just get their first four albums and the dvd, "End Of The Century"

van der who (van smack), Saturday, 20 August 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

what about the live ones, It's Alive, at least?

don, Saturday, 20 August 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Don't listen to people, get everything up to Too Tough to Die.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 20 August 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

It's not about the music. I have the music, I love the music. It's about the PACKAGING.

Which, as I've said elsewhere about this set, is probably so nice and aimed directly at the Ramone-fan type that it's a conscious decision to try and keep file sharing from affecting sales. Especially since the Ramones are turning into one of the most over-anthologized rock acts ever.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 20 August 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

Good move. What's on DVD? RocknRoll High School, recent doc, videos? (greedy yes)

don, Saturday, 20 August 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

The listing for the DVD (Rhino's page) just has song titles, so those are music videos I would guess. and yeah, the package looks pretty sweet.

the debut is the best thing they ever did (i'm not one of those humorless-purist fun-haters who always thinks a band has jumped the shark after the debut, but in this case i think the band hit it right outta the park the first time out, and subsequently lost focus). (that said, "i wanna be your boyfriend" is boring.)

s/c (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 20 August 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Are you sure you're not one of those humorless-purist fun-haters because "I wanna be your boyfriend" is excellence.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 20 August 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

i don't hate it, but it kills the party a little.

s/c (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 20 August 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

the comic is surprisingly vicious! obviously a lot of it was done after the End of the Century doc came out. I haven't played the discs or watched the DVD yet, though; I'm kind of thinking I won't actually need to, per se, but hey.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 20 August 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

Why would anyone buy this when there's already been: RamonesMania, RamonesMania 2, All the Stuff & More Vol.1 & 2, the recent re-releases of the first four albums, Loud Fast Ramones: Their Toughest Hits and Hey Ho! The Anthology?????

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 August 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

And if you only could own one Ramones album, I'd suggest It's Alive every damn time. It's simply all you'd ever need.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 August 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

It has a comic book. xpost

Can I just buy the comic book? I don't listen to the Ramones enough to purchase the CDs.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 20 August 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

For those that are interested and live by a Best Buy, they have it priced @ $39.99 until tomorrow.

I bought it even though I didn't need it. I am STUPID for lavish packaging, though, so no big surprise there.
