The LA Times loves Mick and Keith who love each other, August 21, 2005Excerpts, all you need:
..."it [is] clear that after nearly two decades of off-and-on feuding, Jagger and Richards have not only reestablished their friendship but also recaptured their creative partnership....
Some of the new songs offer classic jolts of the Stones' blues-rock swagger...
"Mick and I hadn't worked like this for God knows how long," said Richards. "We wrote Satisfation and Get Off My Cloud in a little motel room. If I said, 'Mick, I have an idea,' he'd be in my room in five minutes or I'd be over in his."
Don Was...said he's never seen Jagger and Richards as close as they were during the making of the album..."
"They didn't just hang out in the studio," Was said, "they went out to dinner.
"But now I feel like a kid again," [said Richards]. "I can't wait every day to walk up the rehearsal room and play with Mick and Charlie and Ron."
Jagger and Richards frequently huddle in the rehearsal room...They were frequently arm in arm, simply high on the new music.
A little Maltese spanial, named for the Stones' hit "Ruby Tuesday," checked the contents of an equipment case in the corner of the room...
During the dinner break, Jagger, Richards, Watts and guitarist Ron Wood all went to the cafeteria for a stylish buffet prepared by their chef.
[From the 'One more poem and I go home school of lyric writing, an excerpt of a confessional song:]
Jagger extends his ranger as a writer. In "Biggest Mistake" he begins:
When love comes so late
it'll really hit hard
It slams through the gate
It'll catch you off guard
Jagger has written about love and loneliness before ... but [then] it seemed like a generic exercise, not a personal outpouring.
...and at one point [Jagger gives] himself time to think by walking across the room for a bottle of mineral water.
Jagger's [room] was filled with bright lights. He wore a red T-shirt with the words "Enjoy Rock 'n' Roll' in the pattern of "Enjoy Coca-Cola" signs.

"...and that helps make the Stones' new album their strongest since 'Tattoo You,' almost a quarter century ago.

When love comes so late
it'll really hit hard
It slams through the gate
It'll catch you off guard
vs.
Life is rich
But it's way too short
Make a lotta money, you just want more...
vs.
Love is strong
And you're so sweet
You make me hard
You make me weak
This is classic Jagger autopilot. Hilburn should know better, and ought to be properly ashamed.
Still... since Hutchence died does anyone do Jagger as well as Jagger?

yes Alfred. I got it from the piracy cops at Virgin last week.
I guess actually that there are a few really good songs and thankfully, nothing that would fit on the Steel Wheels album. But lots of duds. Lots. I like the production of it though.
