Chris O'Connor (Chris O'Connor), Monday, 22 August 2005 06:32 (twenty years ago)

There was a story in Metro today about how Courtney Love is having Steve Coogan's baby - is this true?!?!? Yes, Steve Coogan as in Alan Partridge - v strange!

Robin Goad (rgoad), Monday, 22 August 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

its in the grauniad too, so it must

Hard drugs (tobacco, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ice, crystal meth)
really do cause premature aging.

Soft drugs (weed, mushrooms) are completely non-lethal
and virtually non-addictive.

medic, Monday, 22 August 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Did Joan Baez kill Kurt Cobain ?

HAHAHAHAHA

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 22 August 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Joan killed Kurt with singing crappier than his own ...

courtney should cover "diamonds & rust"

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 22 August 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

Not all THC consumers are "hippies".

"Smart" is more accurate.

medic, Monday, 22 August 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

weed is addicting for plenty of people

shookout (shookout), Monday, 22 August 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

No, it's a strong habit for some.

But in medical literature, there are no severe or consistent
PHYSICAL withdrawl symptoms, and it's potential for
addiction is low, much less than caffeine
as a matter of FACT.

medicfact, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

So what? There are plenty of PSYCHOLOGICAL withdrawl symptoms, and those are harder to deal with than PHYSICAL ones. The PHYSICAL symptoms of withdrarl are over in a matter of days, it's the PSYCHOLOGICAL ramifications one has to live/deal with for the rest of one's life.

And it's the same for any drug.

shookout (shookout), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

medic, the medical community disagrees with you:

"I don't smoke weed or sess, cuz it's known to give a brother brain damage." - Dr. Dre, MD

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

... and brain damage on the mic don't manage.

Or, in this case, on Reuters' Web publishing tool. :-)

Chris O., Tuesday, 23 August 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Is there supposed to be a picture on this thread?

sam g (seahorsegeniurs), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

courtney should cover "diamonds & rustguns"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Yikes. They took the photo out ... that story on the link originally ran with a concert photo of Joan Baez instead of a fucked-up looking Courtney in court.

Chris O., Tuesday, 23 August 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Smoke weed every day for a month and try to get to sleep the first night off it when you're not coming down, then tell me there are no withdrawal symptoms.

Shaun (shaun), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

The truth is that, compared to all other drugs, Cannabis is...

1) 100% Non-Lethal

2) Less addictive than caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, speed etc.

Just because certain *individuals* have great difficulty quitting,
doesn't mean that Cannabis is in the same addictive category as
the above-mentioned drugs.Your anecdotal hype does NOT refute
the BIG-PICTURE COMPARATIVE REALITY.Some people are 'addicted'
to junk food, 'addicted' to biting their nails, 'addicted' to
sports, 'addicted' to sex, 'addicted' to the internet, etc.

If you take a control group of 10,000 regular Cannabis users, and
put them up against 10,000 regular users of coffee or nicotine
or alcohol, and compare the presence/severity of withdrawl
symptoms, you see truth in a wider context based on SCIENCE.

MORONS !

medic, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

no but my friend tried weed once and now he smokz everyday so i know its addictive omgz

sleep (sleep), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

recently it was demonstrated that pot smoke is worse for your lungs than cigarette smoke.

jake b. (cerybut), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 02:41 (twenty years ago)

1) 100% Non-Lethal

not true! i almost died laughing once

amon (eman), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 02:52 (twenty years ago)

have to agree with medic on this one.the anecdotal argument
is bogus.i have a nephew who played nintendo 8 hrs/day, when his
parents took it away he trashed his room, cutting his
leg in the process.does this mean that 1000 regular nintendo
players who quit trash their rooms in a physically wreckless
manner ? no.

my older brother has smoked 10 joints/day for 30 years, when
he takes a day off he sleeps 12 hrs./day, but what does that
actually prove ? nothing.it's anecdotal nonsense.applicable
to a given individual, but not to larger populational
samples.

Chris B., Wednesday, 24 August 2005 03:53 (twenty years ago)

Most who aggressively argue against Cannabis, actually partake
of much more dangerous substances, making their anti-cannabis
argument totally hypocritical, biased and scientifically
invalid.

medic, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

Paul McCartney & Paco De Lucia. If you listen to ALL of their
works, you can see the creativity-augmenting effect cannabis
has had on their creative scope.

Quite phenomenal indeed.

medic, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

10 joints a day! by himself? holy shit!

jmeister (jmeister), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

There are 3 alternatives to smoking cannabis, spray-form, baked into
food form, and vaporized form. Those concerned with negative
effects due to smoking can and should pursue them.

What's very important is to recognize that a (legal) tobacco
addict smokes 20-30 grams/day, 365 days/yr, mainly
due to nicotine being HIGHLY addictive. The average
amount smoked for regular cannabis users is 6-12
grams per week.Tobacco addicts light up
every 5-20 minutes, and with pot becoming
more potent in thc, most pot smokers take a hoot or 2, and fly
for hours before having another.

Also, there are many many comparative studies which
prove that cannabis smoke contains more of certain
toxins, though less of others. The reefer-madness hype
of "pot smoke is 10 or 100 times more carcinogenic"
is utter nonsense. The 2 forms of smoke are very similar
in toxicity, especially when both forms employ
the same filter mechanism.

medic, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

I was also trying to figure out this 10 joints a day thing. That's insane. Do you happen to have a picture of this guy?

Maike, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

Still no picture I see.

lol...smoke that roach !

Chris B., Wednesday, 24 August 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

P.S. I've smoked weed every day since about 1992. Everyone I know is a pot addict, and so am I. My point is that psychological addiction is a lot more powerful than physical, in the long haul.

shookout (shookout), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

10 joints a day is not hard, if you smoke regularly.

This thread is funny. POT IS 100% HARM FREE!!!! IT'S PROVEN BY SCIENCE!!!!
