Oh, you know you've seen it. What's the matter, ILM: cat got your tongue?

I don't think I never need to read it again because the comment on the first post is greater than anything else written (Juelz props aside):
Wow, that is one of the more ignorant poorly written reviews I've ever read. Firstly, Kano's hypeman was Ghetto, not Demon. Where are you getting your information? It seems from your misguided self, because it, like your opinions, is way off. When you started in with Juellz is garbage etc etc I realized that you and I were clearly living in parallel bizarro dimensions. I was born in New York and grew up there but fled, partly because of donuts like you and your friends moving to my city, driving up the rents and struggling bitterly to prove that you are snottier, more jaded and cooler than everyone in your provincial hometown by dissing whatever you don't understand.

Never even heard of it until now, Candicissima! But looking at it I think I know why.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

this guys pissed because of a small error and a differenc of opinion over juelz santana (who i think is horrible too) so he starts calling names and making snotty, jaded assumptions about the reveiwer.

jmeister (jmeister), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

there was a rhetorical question in there

jmeister (jmeister), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

I like it, but then, Tom's a friend of mine, and I think it's pretty cool that he got the job. not wild about the name, though.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

Tom's just making sure we know he's no soldier.

deej.., Tuesday, 23 August 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

apart from name-errors, it sounds like he knows what hes talking about. anal nerd fact checkers need to get off his dick.

kokokoko, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

It just radiates...smarm. I used to like his old blogspot well enough, but strangely don't find that interesting the whole "I just moved to NYC two weeks ago (did I mention that before? not from here, no, not me) and everything is so fucking lame!" shtick. Because I'm so sure that he's such an outsider who has to struggle to make his mark. Not to mention that the writing is just lazy and arrogant.

Candicissima (candicissima), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

If I just moved to NYC two weeks ago, I'd probably be writing a lot about how I just moved to NYC two weeks ago.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

god that kano/roll deep review is terrible! smug, belligerent, lazy, sneery.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

partly because of donuts like you and your friends

donut ruined new york? for shame!!!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

One day maybe I'll warm to these VV blogs -- which are written by folks I admire -- but so far they make me wanna puke.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

If I just moved to NYC two weeks ago, I'd probably be writing a lot about how I just moved to NYC two weeks ago.

And unless you could do it cleverly or drop it eventually, I'd be calling you a lazy writer also.

Candicissima (candicissima), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

The term mash-up has entered the same territory as words like crunk or bling, words which may have meant something at some point [i.e. 6 months ago when I first heard the term] (or not) but which have made the transition into marketing buzzword, sapped of all meaning, used to sell dumb things in dumb ways.

If I just moved to New York two weeks ago, I'd probably write about music instead of myself.

Blogkiller, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

I still think 311's "Down" was a great song. At least the hook and the breakdown part were.

This is funny to me, because you make it sound like he actually has a reputation. I've read his stuff on Pitchfork and Dip Dip Dive, but I wasn't aware he had turned into Nick Sylvester or Chris Ott all of a sudden.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

I've been living in New York for a week and a half now, and I've never been to CBGB
this is a really great line.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

All in all I think it's a reasonably good takedown of something that probably deserved to be taken down. Also, I chuckled at the closer:

I left before it was over because I had a dog to walk and because fuck that shit.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

The writing is a bit lazy, but isn't that because it's a VILLAGE VOICE BLOGtm?

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Item! It still bugs me out that everyone didn't fall in love with 8 Diagrams the way I did.

banriquit, Monday, 30 June 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

I consider Tom a bro and like reading his stuff most of the time, but there really was a point where he just started hanging up a "kick me" sign on a daily basis.
