honestly. this might be the most boring album of the year; at least past albums had some energy

they did?

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

(and I like DCFC just fine but really now . . .)

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

well i mean a little bit... 'president of what' definitely but yeah i suppose you're right. this is like new lows though

nervous (cochere), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

I *really* like "Soul Meets Body" and "Marching Bands of Manhattan" - much more than anything else they've done previously (Gibbard's Dntel and Postal Service tracks excepted).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

I'm really liking the single as well. The album ia really good so far, the little I have heard it.

BeeOK (boo radley), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

"soul meets body" just sounds like a slightly more produced casiotoneftpa track to me, with that keyboard-sounding drum loop
i mean the melody is nice, but
it just seems dull

nervous (cochere), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

I guess I'm with Matos on this one and wondering why this new one would be any more "dull" than their previous records. Is it overproduced to you? I'm big on that MOR sheen.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

if anything it seems underproduced... maybe it's just the rip i have
i'll give it another listen soon and see if maybe it was just a kneejerk reaction

nervous (cochere), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

I didn't like it that much my first few listens, but I hear it a lot because the wife plays it nonstop, and it's grown on me quite a bit. I think some of the lyrics are laughably bad (especially on the 'when your soul embarks' song), but on the whole it's pleasant enough.

jedidiah (jedidiah), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

xpost: There are some watery lo-fi rips floating around.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Nothing will ever top "We don't mind the weather/we've got hats and scarves and sweaters" Nothing! I'm still waiting for a song about how wistfully lovely mittens are.

Rollo Hazelgrove (Rollo Hazelgrove), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

i fear this album since they've basically gotten worse with everything they've done after We Have the FActs (which is still totally brilliant to my ears). Lazy, lazy, terrible lyrics...what the hell? I've never heard a band peter out so quickly.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

i like the photo album as a whole (except the last 2 tracks) but there was only maybe a third of transatlanticism i really liked (title®istration, expo 86, lightness, passenger seat) so i'm not all that surprised that i'm not a big fan of Plans at first glance

nervous (cochere), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

you know that Kelley Huckaby song was totally awesome, but they used it as the template for almost everything they've done since and it just got dull. I really wish they'd return to the dynamics of the second record. I haven't heard the new one yet though so I guess I can't judge it.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

is there a more earnest voice anywhere ever?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

Do people really start threads on albums after having listened, once, to a rip they grabbed from a p2p?

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

banana: apparently i do
but hey i mean all these people responding were apparently just itching for a thread on it

nervous (cochere), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

Fuck "D/D" backlash, this is a good album. Is "boring" the laziest critical term ever? "Use other thoughts plz."

marc h. (marc h.), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

yeah D or D? The Indie bashing is on the Clap Hands thread right now I thought. I guess these guys arent indie anymore but still...

jmeister (jmeister), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

I'd say they're still indie.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

I was just referring to the major label status not their genre

jmeister (jmeister), Thursday, 25 August 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

Ah, gotcha.
