scratched LPs that skip really are indefensible but sometimes I love me some hissing and popping.

I hate scratched up and moldy old LPs -- only good thing about them is they clog up the bins and keep the lazy vinyl shoppers away.

Helps you deattach yourself from the material world and further yourself along path to reaching Nirvana

I have a Primal Scream XTRMNTR promo cassette tape that got warped from being in my car for too long a few years ago. It sounds cool.

There was a stretch when one of my absolute favorite things to listen to was the first 2 minutes of a very scratched New Tijuana Moods CD. It was wildly phrenetic but just coherent enough to make it brilliant. I scratched up the cd some more to try and reproduce the effect on the rest of the album, and it lost the magic.

I bought scratched-up Rolling Stones LPs on purpose. Mick sounds better if he's been punched in the face a few times.

pierre schaeffer has some good stuff to say about LP scratches in the august issue of the wire.

Scratched-up CDs are only good if some indy-altcountry crap you're being forced to listen to suddenly turns into abstract minimal electronics for a few seconds until the bartender skips to the next disc.

Anomalous records once sent me a freebie promo CDS from some horrible World Serpent band. Inspired by Oval, I scratched it up and threw it in the player. It did some really amazing stuff. I was impressed.
