The Dick Cavett Show - Rock Icons DVD

Just rented this a few nights ago, and I thought it might be worth mentioning to ILM. It's a three disc set including performances and interviews (between 1969 and 1974) with Sly Stone, George Harrison, Bowie, The Stones, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder and others. Yeah, I know that list may look like boring cannon fodder, but I still recommend it for the following:

1) The Sly Stone performance is awesome - and he's a funny dude
2) Watching Janis Joplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and Raquel Welch discuss the Fizgeralds
3) Gloria Swanson describe how she invented the girdle (?!)
4) One show aired and recorded the night after Woodstock where David Crosby and a bunch of other hippies make asses of themselves
5) Paul Simon shows Cavette a song he's working on (which turns out to be "Still Crazy After All these Years) and he asked for advice as to what chord to go to for the bridge (which is still unwritten)

Anyway, it made me wish prime time talk shows still interviewed musicians after they performed AND had them stick around afterwards to interact with other guests.

I've seen the Rolling Stone interview/footage (not that impressive) - but I pretty much HAVE to see this just for Sly alone. looks like a renter.

Great line from the Sly Stone interview:

Cavett: So do you actually sit down and write your music?
Stone: Yeah, I sit down sometimes.
