I was excited for it on my initial listen.
But it did not lift me as high on the second round through. Does it have staying power?
And I'm not sure how innovative I'd call the record.
Generally, though, I like it quite fine.

i have like it bunches with each listen, track one is amazing. i like how its darker and more fleshed out than out of the shadow.

out of the shadow was one of the best indie rock debuts of recent years, it'll be hard to top. I hope they don't go all Chutes too Narrow and start sucking.

dude, 'out of the shadow' sounded like 'chutes too narrow.' a lot. i have nothing but unabashed love for both. ;)

"track one is amazing."
Yes.

"i like how its darker and more fleshed out than out of the shadow."
and me too.
The record seems to have taken what was great about "Every Moment" and developed that sound further, the atmospheric texture and all.

So what's the deal with this new one? From what I understand, main dude wrote all of the first album but the new one is a collab effort. Does is sound that much different? Anybody care to YSI a stand out track?

Gah - sorry about the double post.

two months pass...
I like this record...it's good....he has a way of writing vocal melodies that remind me of Built to Spill.

I'm liking this album more and more with each listen. In fact, I think it's in my top five favorite records this year. I particularly like the second track ("Publish My Love"), but all the tracks are pretty great. My only problem with the album is that the last couple tracks on the album sort-of fizzle out. They should have buried those two in the middle...

Yeah, the end tails off a bit...I was hoping for one more peppy tune at the end...still, it's one of those records that maybe doesn't do enough to really grab yr attention, but every time I listen to it I think, "Wow this is just some good solid indie rock"....there's about 5-6 songs I think are just great.

Of course, you have to be the type of person that still gives a shit about just good solid indie rock.....

it is kinda like the Shins, but maybe a little more sonically adventurous (haha DON'T KILL ME ILM, I MEAN IN TERMS OF TRAD INDIE ROCK)....

'Publish My Love' is really, really awesome.

zeus (zeus), Sunday, 6 November 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

I've listened to it far more often than any other record in the last few months (save Twin Cinema), and I still don't know the titles to most of the songs and can only hum a couple if they're not playing at that exact moment. Not that any of that matters, because when it is playing, it's soooo damn perfect.
