Michael Yonkers Band - Microminiature Love: Classic or Dud?

I heard a song of theirs last week on the local college station and was blown away by it. Sort of moody-psych/lo-fi garage rock from what I recall, but abnormally stellar -- I can't remember what song I heard. Apparently this album was supposed to be released in 1968 by Sire but wasn't issued until 2003, by Sub Pop. There wasn't a thread on them and so I'm wondering what everyone's opinions are about this record.

awesome....michael is a treasure!

he's been gigging in mpls the last few years, it's amazing, he has a wierd portable home-made amp and a wierd guitar that he's sawed off the body of....i guess he's done playing live now, cuz of his debilitating back problems. by all accounts a super nice guy as well.

i just bought this about a month ago. i think it's cool, but not amazing. it's a bit too tinny - absolutely no low end. all his weird guitar tunings make for sometimes samey chord progressions and sometimes remind me of sonic youth

he was so gracious and seemed genuinely touched that all these young no1ze kidz were digging his music all the time i saw him...he'd always really intently watch the other bands as well....

yonkers is the man, his solo sets remind me of a weird, timewarped, acid-fried Brick Layer Cake. the record is an excellent, strange artifact.

and jah he is a super-polite, gracious man

one of those rare albums where i was thinking "classic" after the first listen. i'm keeping the vinyl version and the cd and i don't do that often... for some reason his guitar playing makes me think of barrett-floyd but even more consistently fucked up and tonally weird.

it is a shame the bonus tracks on the sub pop cd are kind of eh.

Definitely classic

That's weird, that Michael Yonkers thread didn't come up when I searched under his name (and yes, I didn't search in keyword).

Rest in Peace, a one of one talent

glad he was able to see his work appreciated, sad he lived in so much pain

RIP to a truly a singular person

He made a bunch of records with the Blind Shake, which was such a brilliant, perfect pairing, it really brought the best out of everyone
