After just listening for the first time in almost ten years, without listening to any other Sabbath album before or after, I say, yes, underrated. Disagree?

it's not as good as never say die, but it isn't bad. i enjoy it. i can certainly see why people may overlook it though. or not rate it much. when i was a young sabbath freek it was the one and only album i didn't have.

I like Dio, I like early Sabbath, yet I have never listened to Dio-era Sabbath... is it worthwhile? what's the best? Mob Rules...?

heaven and hell drags in parts but it's got some good uns, esp. title track and neon knights

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 26 August 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

shakey - both Dio-era albums are amazing.

Better still is Born Again, though, which is one of the all time great heavy metal albums. The only people who don't like it are people who've never heard it (that makes up a good 90%) and idiots.

haa neon knights is def. awesome

amon (eman), Friday, 26 August 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

yeah, you need the dio albums and the gillan. that's a given. after that, you are excused from class.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 26 August 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

Born Again is so underrated! I haven't heard that album for a long time. I just spent the last week overdosing on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage.

This website makes me buy too much music.

The only album, from the debut up through Born Again, that I don't have! And have never heard! I even have Live Evil but for whatever reason I've never heard this. Always scared that I would be really disappointed I guess. I love Never Say Die, though.

"Neon Knights" is definitely one of THE great Black Sabbath songs from any era.

so, anyway, i don't think tech x is underrated. it's not great, but if you are a fan (i mean it still has 50 iommi riffs that a zillion other bands could never match) then you would like it. i do often think that never say die is underrated though. sabotage hasn't been underrated for years. everyone knows how godlike that album is by now.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 27 August 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

Sabotage may not be underrated, but within the album itself, "Am I Going Insane" is! Nobody ever talks about that song. It's always all "Symptom of the Universe" this, "Hole in the Sky" that.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 27 August 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

you won't hear me talk like that. i couldn't even pick a favorite side if i had to. i want the whole thing played at my funeral.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 27 August 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

"am i going insane" is the radio hit (from that record)! not quite underrated i'd say

amon (eman), Saturday, 27 August 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

it still gets play on classic rock stations, and rightfully so.

amon (eman), Saturday, 27 August 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

what is underrated though... tech x's wtf cover art!

Technical Ecstasy isn't a great Sab LP, but I think "You Won't Change Me" is a great Sab tune, with some of Iommi's best guitar work. Not underrated, but worth a listen.
