"Men in Black" vs. "Forget Me Nots"
"Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" vs. "He's the Great Dancer"
"Just the Two of Us" vs. "Just the Two of Us" (is there another here?)
"Miami" vs. "And the Beat Goes On"
"Wild, Wild West" vs. "Sir Duke" (and "Wild Wild West" too, I guess)
"Will2K" vs. "Rock the Casbah"

might be missing one or two, but these are the big 'uns.

I'd say it's about even.

WS: "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It," "Just the Two of Us" and "Wild, Wild West"

Others: "Forget Me Nots," "And the Beat Goes On," "Rock the Casbah"

You forgot "Summertime" vs. "Summer Madness"

(although the REAL winners are Ice Cube ("You Know How We Do It") and Aaliyah ("Girl Like You"))

I love Will, but nothing is better than "He's the Greatest Dancer".

"Miami" actually pissed me off, because "And The Beat Goes On" is my all-time favourite disco (funk? electro-funk? Whaddya call that post-disco, pre-house, big-handclap-on-the-snare-drum style?) tune. Otherwise, yeah, call it even - "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" was the second CD I ever owned...

I'm no big fan of Will Smith -- anyway, "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "Sir Duke" have him beat handily before the competition even starts. Props to Dr. Bill for the genius thread concept, though.

"He's the Greatest Dancer" isn't so...great. And "Sir Duke" is a very overrated song by a very overrated human being.

I mean yeah, he might have written "Livin' for the City," but did he write "don't let your lip react / y'all don't wanna see my hand where my hip be at"? Thought not.

But yeah, The Whispers rock the fucking house.

much prefer the original in EVERY case.

no way is "He's the Greatest Dancer" better than "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It".

one year passes...
How did nobody catch the fact that "Sir Duke" has nothing to do with this discussion? "I Wish" is the song sampled in "Wild Wild West" (fabulously, too).

Will wins hands down on MIB and Jiggy, btw. Loses on Wild Wild West (though I do think it's a very overlooked single). Not sure on the others for various reasons.

West--Jim West, desperado, rough rider; no, you don't want nada, none of this brother: gunninest brother.

Wow, how did I rate "Wild Wild West" below "I Wish"? "Wild Wild West" might be the best thing he's ever released!

I mean, give him credit at least for knowing to sample Kool Moe Dee and not the Escape Club.

Losing all the way. The sources of his samples are mostly really great, while such obvious sampling is always dud no matter how good the original.
