Live (bootleg) recordings : horror and success stories

Ye aulde unsung tales of merit, honor and shame behind [your] [bootleg] concert recordings : smuggling equipment in & out, plugging right into mixing desks, ingenious miking, Busted! stories, close calls, etc ?

As a former practitioner I'll happily contribute when this here thread gets a-rollin', and for a weird example of bands facilitating the practice, I'd mention the Grateful Dead inviting bootleggers to purposefully elevated, well-placed platforms facing the stage.
