Second Fiddle

Pardon if this is in any way daft, but I'm looking for suggestions: I'm trying to develop a longer article about overshadowed "secondary" songwriters--call it the George Harrison syndrome--exploring the issues inherent to collaboration as competition, and attempting critical comparison between the work of the second banana and that of the more dominant partner.

Any suggestions of folks to talk about/talk to? Looking in any of the various "pop" song-based genres, early-60s through today. No points taken away for obvious suggestions.

Thanks for the help. (Sorry if this got posted twice.)

Tommy Stinson -- only one song to his (sole) credit during his Replacements days, and it was (I think) a b-side.

Hard to say who the "secondary" writer was among the Airplane: Kantner, Balin, Slick, or Kaukonen. Probably Jorma, and he came up with some fine stuff.

Big Star's Andy Hummel ("The India Song"), Jody Stephens ("For You") and (it must be said) Chris Bell (the whinier songs on #1 Record). Though, admittedly, that was more of an early Lennon/McCartney collaboration thing.
