This is the thread in which we all get to be uptight old bastards who don't need this new nonsense the kids are into these days, what with their skateboards and the internets, because we've already got the real deal and it was all better when we were kids (or, for the antiquarians amongst us, before we were born); or, conversely, where some brave hipster may say, for example, that he doesn't need those moldy old Velvet Underground records because he already has his Black Rebel Motocycle Club, and besides, it's 2005, grandfather.

Hmmm, I don't know about this premise. I like artists that have good songs even if there were others who did more with the same aesthetic. So for me, it's not a situation of not needing X because there was already Y, but rather not needing X because I just don't think they're very good!

I heard pil first, I was still thinking the thread was more about chronology of the orig. artists and not our exposure, then I just re-read the initial question.

I don't really see how Chic would have any effect on my liking of british post-punk. i.e., when I want to hear disco, I listen to Chic, when I want to hear british post-punk, I listen to british post-punk.

in any case, I don't need any other music, because I already have Roxy Music.
