soundtrack for nightmare road trip

i need something that will keep me going for 30 hours, and then for the 30 hours back.

i think i'll need the antithesis of what i normally listen to which is generally dark, brooding and somewhat creepy music made by disturbed middle-aged white men. so the opposite of that, and with some energy. i hope the fuck thats doesn't = happyhardcore.

any suggestions including good podcast suggestions are welcome. i like Beats in Space, but too much electronica could send me over the edge. so i gues something warm and sorta happy (cringe) with people's voices is what i'm looking for.

merci.

"Road Runner."

Over and fucking over again.

That is a ridiculous road trip. What's possessing you to drive that far?
Annie's fun, but maybe not your thing. I've been digging the Hold Steady right now, but that might be too close to what you listen to already.
As far as podcasts go, check out the Aesthetics of Pop podcasts on Stylus. They're interviews with Sasha Frere-Jones and another guy, and they're both heavy on grime.

Mine tonight was the new Of Montreal, much to my chagrin.

Motown Ultimate Collections make the time go by quickly.

If you're just trying to stay awake, try anything that makes you sing along. Instrumentals will make you fall asleep at the wheel. Tago Mago will make you drive too fast and end up doing a 360 at 80mph on the freeway in San Francisco.

actually the descriptions don't make them sound terribly interesting. but they're weird and work on the road

You could start with The Primitives' "Crash" if your humor is a little black.

ah this is helpful. i must travel east and cannot fly. don't even try b/c i'm not getting on that plane. but yeah, it is a ridiculous trip.

i've been thinking about motown stuff too. and i think the stylus podcast is a good suggestion; it might be easy to get talk radio in the dessert, but some of it is really disturbing... so best to just take shit with me. and will heed the other suggestions.

also, after motown, i'm going to want to rage a bit, is there anything like swervedriver and is more like husker du/sugar and less predictable riffs?

My favorite road trip music has always been Sonic Youth.

modern lovers is OTM. anything laden with amphetamines or caffeine or sugar or sex, where you can bash out the 30 hrs, and then crash to sleep, your entire body wracked with exhaustion. note: these are only my suggestions for when the road trip isnt meant to be enjoyed leisurely, but is instead an obstacle, a Minotaur to be conquered.

modern lovers - s/t
andrew wk - i get wet
prince - dirty mind
hawkwind - space ritual
motorhead - ace of spades
funkadelic - free your mind...
velvet underground - white light/white heat
daft punk - homework or discovery
neu! - neu!
dinosaur jr - youre living all over me (accelerate with every solo)
roxy music - s/t or for your pleasure
stooges - pick one!
any frat rock compilation
wire - pink flag
thee headcoats - beach bums must die
yoko ono - fly
can - monster movie
minor threat - complete discography
dj assault - pick anything
rio baile funk - favela booty bass

The Tindersticks 2nd record. Preferably at night.

kwhitehead (stephen schmidt), Monday, 29 August 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Oops. I misread your first post. Sorry. Maybe not the Tindersticks but...then again, you may need something dark and brooding to offset all that happy hardcore.

Mea Culpa.
