Almost sounds like Soul Jazz compilation in the making. The Mongoloids were Junior Sanchez, Armand van Helden, Roger Sanchez, DJ Sneak, Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk and Laidback Luke if I'm not mistaken. What happened? Which tracks define the "movement"?

"The Funk Phenomena" by Armand is probably as good a place to start as any. Redman sample! Does anyone where the "concept" came from? Why Mongoloids?

Wasn't "Mongoloids" just an alias for Armand Van Helden? For example, Nuyorican Soul's "Runaway" (Mongoloids In Space Mix) is credited solely to AVH, and he's also the only person credited with writing Da Mongoloids' "Spark The Meth."

On the other hand, Junior Sanchez does rap on Armand's "Hybridz," which has a Mongoloids credit, and discogs lists Da Mongoloids as AVH, Junior Sanchez, and Thomas Bangalter (!), so who knows...

The S-Men - "Back" and "The Potion" off of Sanchez's "Illegal" EP both had some pretty good mongoloid moments.

And those were both '97 in those nice bright yellow Narcotic sleeves.
