Or Manchester Free Trade as it is actually. I mean i've heard the famous bits, but what's the big deal about it? I read an Andy Kershaw quote (yeah i know) that said 'I could never understand why people wanted to continue making music after that recording...'

Just generally i mean what is the fuss? There's no thread about this recording so far, i just checked.

The sound Robbie Robertson gets from his guitar is more erotic than the best sex I've ever had.

What's the big deal? I don't believe you. You're a liar.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 15 September 2005 12:07 (eighteen years ago) link

No, I think "You're A Liar" was on the first LL Cool J album...

ah the '1966 live' threads eluded me, as i didnt search for that.

(um, felt like working in a reference to another "lie" song... "That's a Lie" is awesome)

Can someone explain to me what "I don't believe you..... You're a LIAR!" means?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 15 September 2005 12:34 (eighteen years ago) link

hahahahahaha, alba has said what you're not supposed to say. fuck knows. the guy who said 'judas' can hardly be said to have "lied" can he? he felt betrayed innit.

N_RQ, Thursday, 15 September 2005 12:37 (eighteen years ago) link

As I said in my blog piece, I think he was reacting to what someone else in the audience said after Judas Man, which sounds to me like "Play another one of your chart-topping records!" in a snide Kenneth Williams voice.

Ah, makes perfect sense now.

because Dylan was credited with calculating a proof to know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.

Apparently there were 4000 holes in Tony Blackburn.

don't most proper actual bob fans already have most of this stuff that come out eeeendlessly on reisue? i guess through dylan i can see how people feel about all the MOJO fabs front covers and suchlike.

actually maybe that's not fair. the bootleg series only comes out once every couple of years or so doesn't it? it just *feels* like it's more often.

eight years pass...

Froma November 27 Facebook posting by Paul Schrader

Went to the scalper and plunked down 190 quid tonight to see Bob Dylan at Albert Hall and boy was it worth it. Row 9, center. 2500 seats. He first played there in 1966, going electric with the Beatles watching on. 7:30 show. Lights go down at 7:30. Band starts at 7:31, Dylan walks out at 7:32. Spare lighting, no gels, no screens, no merch table. 15min intermission at 8:15, encore at 9:30. Scolding rendition of Love Sick to close first section, Long and Wasted Years to close second. Free wine and ice cream at interval. No acknowledgement per usual of audience or historic nature of venue. 100% in your face attitude. Great show.

On the real, I don’t think Dylan believed the guy really felt betrayed; he was accusing the guy of being “performative.” I think the guy wrote (decades later) that this was essentially the case — he yelled “Judas” because it was The Thing to Do.
