You just answered your own question, Tim! "badass Slide! Guitar!" needs no defending. Loud guitar riffs doubled by noisy tenor sax - making them even heavier - is always a good thing. (ie. King Crimson, The Sonics, Von Lmo and even Prince in "Temptation"). Plus the arrangement's fairly interesting, with the guitar laying out entirely during the verses then re-emerging for the chorus. Lyrics are stupid and singing ain't much ("His only virtue as a vocalist is his complete lack of embarrassment" wrote Xgau!). But I think his stuttering is truly impressive - dunno about the rest of you, but I certainly can't move MY lips that quickly. (Shut up.)
Oh, and I love the pregnant pause at the very top of the song.

On the day I was born the nurses all gathered 'roundThey gazed in wide wonder at the joy they had foundThe head nurse spoke up, she said “Leave this one alone.”She could tell right away that I was bad to the bone
You can just see the group of women in white standing in awe around the basinet, then the "head nurse," the one who has seen it all, breaks the reverie with a stern command. This is cinema.

And, yeah, Hound Dog Taylor (1st LP esp.) was better. But I'll always be a sucker for that growly sax/axe sound.

"In the late '70s George loved working out, cigars, pro wrestling, and especially baseball. It was during this period that Thorogood created and played on a semi-pro league team in Delaware. He was the second baseman and was chosen rookie of the year in the league. Soon after this achievement The Destroyers forced him to quit playing the sport."

And you know what? I can't defend it, but fuckitanyway, I like it despite myself. (I grew up in one of those AA towns, though useless at sports, looking tough, and earning enough money to b-b-b-buy a car bad enough to blast a song like this out the windows of.)

I heard it coming out of a clock radio recently and realized it could have been something arty like The Scientists or the Beasts of Bourbon with its fake blues and noisy guitar and sax (I think there is sax). It's one of those thin line kind of things.
