Convince me to pay £35 (plus booking fee) to see Stockhausen in London on October 22nd

I mean, it seems a bit expensive for less than 2 hours music, or am I being naive?

The set list is Kontakte (35 mins) and Oktophonie (68 mins) according to the ad in today's Guardian. Anyway, info is here : http://www.seetickets.com/see/price.asp?code=156150&userid=262149631&filler1=see

I was thinking of going to this but the price makes me nervous. Thing is the old guy'll be gone soon so this is probably the only 'live' opportunity going. Who knows - in the excitement of a micro-tonal shift in scored variations he may peg it on stage and you'd have yourself an anecdote for the kids.

Copied and pasted from another recent thread. I doubt it will convince you one way or t'other, but may be of interest:

He is performing in Billingsgate fish market soon, I think I read somewhere. I'm walking around trying to look as if I'm going, even though I'm not.

the fishmonger is an artist and Billingsgate is his greatest work

KRS One to thread.

In case he doesn't show up, what do you think he would say?
-- Mark (r-...), August 8th, 2005.

>the speakers are going to move up and down.
oktophonie is spatially mixed for eight speakers, with the sounds moving around in the room from speaker to speaker. I don't think the speakers themselves will be moving.

it's a nicely drony piece, the digital textures take a bit of getting used to for the first 15-20 minutes but once it locks in on the One Note it's good listening, and should sound great loud at the fish market. wish I could be there.

I'm going and am very excited, between Xenakis and this it's going to be a good october, I've seen/heard Kontake being performed a few years ago with the two percussion/piano/tapes setup, a London based company called Reservoir (IIRC) performed it.

Hey Crawford, which Xenakis concerts are you going to?
I'm wavering on the Stockhausen, maybe I should sell off a couple of those Current 93 records I'm never going to listen to again to finance it.

Fuck it, I'm sold. Credit card bill here I come.

I only wish I had the mere *opportunity* to pay a frighteningly large sum of cash to see Stockhausen.

Seen him, so no way I'm paying £35 for the old nutcase, is he short of cash or something?

On the contrary, he's so obscenely healthy he'll probably live to be 150
