Also, I saw Feist in a Calgary community theatre rock opera circa 1993.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 23 September 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Does Hold Steady > Lifter Puller count?

Probably not, 'cause I like the Hold Steady more.

I saw Heatmiser! They were TERRIBLE. Opening for the Mekons in Portland Oregon back in '91-92. Terrible in a boring, monotonous kind of way as well - I mean they were like this void of indie mediocrity. I later saw Smith do a small solo acoustic show in Eugene (maybe '96 or '97) and he was much better. The Mekons weren't so hot that long-ago night, either. But TONIGHT I get to go see Sally Timms and John Langford on tour. As a hopeless Mekons fan, this is a very good thing.

Also:
Danzig > Samhain
at several small all ages gigs. We swilled wine out of cheap jugs next to vans at parties together. Or were The Misfits more popular than his solo stuff?... I'm confused about that one.

Kaia > Adickdid seconded.

sleeve (sleeve), Saturday, 24 September 2005 01:08 (twenty years ago)

agreed, leaving heatmiser was the best career move and i don't even like elliot smith but heatmiser was all sorts of crapness.

salexander (salexander), Sunday, 25 September 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

the drummer from The Arcade Fire was in a band called Kepler. But I can't be sure of that, cos I don't remember what Kepler's drummer looked like. They were great though.

Well, I saw Dave Pajo as Papa M, but then I'd say in the long run every other band he was in was more popular than Zwan.

damien rice > juniper
bellx1 > juniper

they were shit then, and shit now....

jimmyh, Sunday, 25 September 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

Taking some liberties with "more popular" b/c "Dead Dog's Eyeball" wasn't exactly chart-topping, but K. McCarty did get more notice there than ever in Glass Eye it seems. Love them, love her.

Declan Zimmerman (Declan Zimmerman), Monday, 26 September 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

...and

Sure [popular band] is more popular now, but i saw him/her in [his/her former, less popular solo act]

Roger Miller / No Man / Maximum Electric Piano ... saw all this before the current MoB reunion.

Declan Zimmerman (Declan Zimmerman), Monday, 26 September 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

Kepler still exists w/ a new drummer.

To continue the "Feist" meme ...

Feist > Royal City

She was in a lot of bands.
