is my fave)

Drive like Jehu (awsome stuff there:))

Enslaved (saw these guys in france, all teh new stuff was awesome, but so
was the older eld-era stuff)

Graham Coxon (love crow sit in blood tree)

Jeff Buckly (so so good, love the zeppelin covers on the live releases, made
me laugh a lot)

dakota (sp?) off disk 1)

Modest Mouse (about as lo-fi as you can get:))

distorted effects on the lead guitar on that album)

beats imho)

everything by them i love(bar possibly pain of mind))

love pretty hate machine, like a naughty pet shop boys ;))

in a good way!))

seriousness beneath the playfulness, awesome)

The plot to blow up the eifel tower (my ex girlfriend took me to see these
in leeds and i loved em, related to la quiete members i think or i might be

em so much, but i think i like khanate better)

Swans (my band and i played a venue once where the sound was done by swans'
road sound manager, he was a wanker but the sound was amazing!(just
remembered was in lincoln))

trail of dead (everything aside from sourcetags and codes which is "meerly"
ok, i adore worlds apart the newie and the amazing dvd film!)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Sunday, 25 September 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

just tell him that your flamboyantly gay and highly agressive friend with herpes downloaded all that music onto your computer, and you've already given your friend his number so they should be seeing eachother soon...or just congratulate him on reading well and tell him to fuck off. i'm sure they'll both work.

ryannyc (ryannyc), Monday, 26 September 2005 03:32 (twenty years ago)

eh, this is the kind of thing the internet is for. The other day I got AIM messaged by a gay guy looking for a boyfriend who found me on Facebook. He was disappointed to find out that I'm not gay, nor do I have any hot, single gay friends, but eh, he seems like a nice guy. Go ahead and talk to him. It's a lot more likely that something good would happen than bad.

Mickey (modestmickey), Monday, 26 September 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

Do we know it's a guy? (I can't be bothered looking for any gendered pronouns).

kg, Monday, 26 September 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

If you like the same boring crap he apparently does, go for it. The words "my ex girlfriend" might help you hazard a guess at gender/sexuality.

deej.., Monday, 26 September 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

Just kidding about the boring crap thing, not because i like that music but because i didnt mean to come across like an asshole. my bad.

deej.., Monday, 26 September 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

apologetic asshole, c/d?

deej.., Monday, 26 September 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

Dizzee Rascal, Lighntning Bolt, Low, Magnetic Fields, Aphex Twin, Sigur Ros... what's so impossibly obscure about this stuff? I would think in most college towns this kind of stuff is considered pretty standard.

Jena (JenaP), Monday, 26 September 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

Also, I find the fact that he spelled Dizzee Rascal correctly, amidst all the other stuff, fairly remarkable. I bet he's a closet grime freak.

Jena (JenaP), Monday, 26 September 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

based on the rest of his missive, the saying "even a stopped clock is right twice a day" would be appropriate.

gear (gear), Monday, 26 September 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

this is adam, maybe?

kurt broder (dr g), Monday, 26 September 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

If the email wasnt so long and creepy i would make friends with him in a shot.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Monday, 26 September 2005 06:48 (twenty years ago)

if it turns out to be a chick, ignore the grammar and bone her immediately

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:10 (twenty years ago)

Anyone that takes the time to list every single artist they listen to on MySpace...
Well, that's slightly judgemental, maybe. I mean, I don't know, but he might be an annoying/unwanted addition to your life.
I'd say no.

mox twelve (Mox twleve), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:23 (twenty years ago)

this is him:

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

I vote "make friends" - if he's a freak you can always dump him later.

D.G. Jones (D.G. Jones), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:29 (twenty years ago)

hmmmm, what if he thought he was emailing lindsey lohan?

Jena (JenaP), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

it's a guy?

I suggest you send him some sort of cold meat in the post.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:36 (twenty years ago)

you should send him a link to this thread and ask him to plead his case here. ILM will then be better equipped to decide if a friendship should be persued.

sffd, Monday, 26 September 2005 07:43 (twenty years ago)

He's an engineering student. I agree, send him here.

tolstoy (tolstoy), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

Bring forth the warrior! In combat shall he be judged and upon his live so decided.

tolstoy (tolstoy), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:53 (twenty years ago)

Nice shirt

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 26 September 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

ILM should judge everything everyone does in their lives; we could have sub-commitees about clothes worn, food eaten, relationships had etc etc.

But anyhow what the hell talk to the guy I guess, unless you have enough friends already. I suppose if he's a bit shy this seems like a good way to meet people at the uni who aren't wankers.. As far as the spelling goes, he's either typing in a hurry or trying to appear to be, to take away from the slight creepiness of his email. If that's his real spelling then uni may be tough for him.

Bn1 (Bn1), Monday, 26 September 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

boris (im a massive fan of anything southern lord related, but i especially love dronevil by boris!)

This fella, or someone very like him, is looking for pals on the Southern Lord forum as well. Dude's pulling out all the stops

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 26 September 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

ILx in the hall of residence 20 years ago:

*knocks on room door*

Hi, I'm from next door and...

ILx: FUCK OFF DON'T TRY IT DUDE ASSHOLE USE SPELLCHECK WHERE'S YOUR GRIME THEN ROFFLES RoXoR!

*promptly retreats, to hang himself*

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 26 September 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

If that's his real spelling then uni may be tough for him.

I wouldn't be so sure about that...

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 26 September 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

Sgur ros: always loved these since i first heard em

I liked'em much better when I hadn't heard'em. ROFL

Why not go for it?

nathalie, a bum like you (stevie nixed), Monday, 26 September 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

meet this person, whatdo you have to lose?

N_RQ, Monday, 26 September 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Joking aside, try giving the guy a chance he might just end up being your best mate. My girlfriend has dyslexia and her spelling/grammar is pretty bad but she could articulate most anyone under the table in conversation; if he's a jerk... well walk away. You're at college, have fun meeting people.

However, I still think you should invite him here, so that we can pick over his wastral limbs in the loins den before depositing his miserable carcass in the nearest student campus recycling facility.
