"THIS SONG IS ALL ABOUT YOU" What a genius intro to Detroit Rock City...in Stockholm.
Thanks Bobby Peru.

There's something so endearing about Stanley's long speeches about how this was his childhood dream, and how much he wants the audience to have a good time, since they're spending their hard-earned money... but it's also just so fucking funny.

COLD GIN!

Edward Bax (EdBax), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 12:40 (eighteen years ago) link

In a way, this is the best promotional tool Kiss has had since the "Kiss Coffin" got all that press 10 years ago - ever since hearing this, all I've wanted to dig out was old Kiss songs. Kiss are back on my radar. They should officially release this.

Actually, here's insanity for you -- yesterday was a bit slow at work and I had the tracks burned onto a disc, so...

Please note the songtitles mentioned in 6 and 21 are almost certainly wrong, but I like the idea of a KISS song called "Cowboy Feeder Now."

28. If You Wanna Drink Alcohol, Do NOT...DRINK...RYE!

WTF? It's like Stanley suddenly turns into a bad Norm McDonald impression of Larry King.

darin (darin), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 17:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Think it's "do not drink and drive" with a bad edit. And why do I keep hearing Daffy Duck in his delivery? As in.."How many girlths liked to get licked?"

stu (stu), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 21:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Think it's "do not drink and drive" with a bad edit.

That's no fun, I like my take! He's a very specific alcoholic!

And why do I keep hearing Daffy Duck in his delivery?

He's always had that weird lisp. The evidence there for hearing on Kiss Alive.

Ned, you are a genius. I am making my CD cover with your tracklisting right now.

Ned, you are a genius. I am making my CD cover with your tracklisting right now.

:-) Are you actually designing something? I'd love a copy!

I intend to input this into the CDDB tonight.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 February 2006 00:59 (eighteen years ago) link

I designed an amazing cover, using a Google-image searched "collage of pencil drawings of Paul Stanley" that should come up on the first page, and I put the title in a KISS font I got somewhere long ago.
And all 70 track names fit on the back in tiny 7 point arial!

I would love to share the cover, but I was pretty DIY about it, using my work's copier machine!

Wait - make your own!:

This explains the "I heard some of you people like to drink tequila / I heard some of you like to drink human urine" followed by spectacular applause on the Boulder - Unleashed in the Midwest LP.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Thursday, 9 February 2006 04:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Wait, hold on Ian, had you never heard the legendary rant Paul gives on Kiss Alive all those years back introducing "Cold Gin"? I'm honestly befuddled, that's the one piece of stage hoohah by him EVERYONE knows! Alice Donut did a near word-for-word parody of it on their live album and that was over a decade ago.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 February 2006 04:17 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh wow, that pencil drawing is fantastic!

Would love to see the final cover.

"YOU DON'T MIND IF WE GO WAY BACK TO... OLD SCHOOL KISS, DO YA???!!!"

Took ages, but I managed to get the Zip file from the original site last night, and my God, this is amazing. How does he do that without shredding his vocal cords?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Kiss Alive? Man, I'm not 1000 years old yet! I jumped on board a couple years after If You Want Blood, You Got It, and Unleashed in the East. Both are great albums, but pitifully free of crowd raps. Scorpions' Tokyo Tapes delivers the goods -- heavily accented German frontman screaming in English to a Japanese audience.

I know W.A.S.P. was kicked off a mid-80s Kiss tour for stealing Stanley's crowd raps!

Last night at the Jimmy Pardo Show - a "late-night talk show" (with an audience, but no cameras) at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre - they were pausing periodically to check in with Paul Stanley via satellite uplink, which meant throwing up a still photo of him and playing a few onstage banter clips.

I was talkin' to some people backstage and they told me. They to-oh-oh-oh-old me that no Paul Stanley stage rap CD is complete without the "what a bummer, I really wanted to come out there" track from Anaheim in 2000.
