I saw this interview with Springsteen by Nick Hornby (ILM's collective favorite). But the interview is sometimes fascinating, easily the best I've seen with the Boss in a long time:

NH: For the benefit of the tape I'm looking at CDs which feature Dylan and Sleater Kinney and the Beach Boys and Jimmy Cliff and Sam Cooke and Bobby Bland and Joe Strummer; pretty much the whole history of recorded music

ahaha!

Well, in his defense Springsteen adds listening to Louis Armstrong and Four Tet, which if you combine with those other acts does add up to a pretty huge chunk of pop history.
