I missed this - details?

zebedee (zebedee), Thursday, 29 September 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

If the kids... was played at the labour party conference as our great leader's walk-to-the-stage footstomper. So as he made his way through the audience shaking as many hands as he could, you had Jimmy Pursey's rasping voice yelling at full volume.

Cut to yesterday's Newsnight and Sham 69 were in the studio performing a (very ham-fisted) 'satirical' reworking of the song.

It was too weird for words.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 29 September 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

awful is a word.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 29 September 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

apparently Paxman was yelling "Buncha' fookin amateurs' at them.

I thought the guitarist looked a good deal like Marco Pirroni. I wonder if it was him? I tried to find out on the Sham 69 website, but the answer wasn't forthcoming and then I was scared away by the absoulte mountain of comic sans to be seen there.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 29 September 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

I found the unplugged nature of the thing quite surreal, especially as the bassist insisted on doing that macho punk bassist pose.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 29 September 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

Unlikely to be Marco I think, how big was he? Last time I saw Marco he was the size of a small car.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 29 September 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

This fellow was not the size of a car, unless you mean a very very small car.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, I was about to say he looked like 30% of Marco Pirroni

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 30 September 2005 07:46 (twenty years ago)

If somebody could YSI John Prescott taking lead vocals on "Hurry Up Harry" I'd be very happy. Blunkett on "Borstal Breakout" was shit. Bad idea to led the dog take the chorus, I think.

"Millbank Boys, Millbank Boys
Laced up boots and corduroys
Millbank Boys, Millbank Boys
They call us the cunts who ruined the Labour Party"

I'm sure there's a Wolfgang Press joke lurking in there somewhere.
