Who has put up bands on tour in their homes? Has the experience been positive or negative? Any crazy stories? Have you been in a band that has crashed with others? Who's been polite? Who's been an asshole? Not naming names defeats the purpose of this thread so spill your guts!

The guys in F-Space (Bay area pyrotechnical industrial noisenicks) were perfect gents.

The Unband, on the other hand, were a three-man hurricane. Mercifully, it was my friend Rob's pad and not mine, but those dudes are slobs. Lovable slobs, but man....the place smelled like a wet, incontinent, drunk dog.

My band has stayed in everything from mansions to rooftops. We've stayed with sociopaths and heiresses. Touring is a wild fucking ride on any level.

Em!l Beaulieu holds the distinction for being the sweetest, most congenial and helpful house guest we've ever had.

No first hand horror stories, but maybe somebody ELSE can relay he notorious "Dreamh0use get arrested in drag" story or the "Arthur D0yle stays up all night walking around the house" story...

matthew dear stayed with me and my wife once. he was a most well-behaved guest.

My brother-in-law claims to have gone home to his filthy college house to find the members of Mastodon snorting coke off his coffee table, as they were staying there at the time.

most of the bad ones you try to forget.

one of the members of a.r.e.weap0ns (we'll call him raul mevingy) was an annoying idiot. the other two were actually pretty nice and grateful for the hospitality shown.

If my girlfriend walks in while I'm typing this she'll probably insist that every single band we've put up have been loud, annoying cunts. In truth they've all been pretty nice

a couple of years ago, some friends of mine from school who worked for the student concert organization hosted whatever incarnation of P. Funk was touring. apparently, the guitar player kept one of 'em up all night pouring his heart out about his family problems/crack addiction

Venetian Snares was pretty nice, but then I passed out at five in the morning in an armchair and he made out with a girl in my bed. Plus he refused to smoke anything other than Dunhills, and those are pretty fucking expensive (guess who was paying).

i wont house a band unless i have a geniunely good gut feeling about them, so in that respect all of my experiences have been excellent. its forged many friendships that i cherish.

short list of bands that have stayed with me: c0nstant!nes, 0n3ida, m3tropolitan, 4wek, members of GBV, creeper lagoon, l0w ski3s...

id like to think that im a pretty decent host. i always try to have things like bagels, fruit orange juice, coffee and other snacks available in the morning, as well as plenty of clean towels ready. just wish my current apartment was larger!

Ahhh...poor Michael "Kid Funkadelic" Hampton.

in the event that touring bands haven't commented on your kindness, seriously: THANK YOU.

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Monday, 3 October 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

thanks banana! i get kinda wiggy when i cant sleep in my own bed for a night, and the couple of times ive toured i know how it can take its toll on one's physical/mental well-being. there's the long hours, being cramped up in a van, lack of dining choices, the boozing, etc etc. sometimes i think touring is a fate i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy. anyway, when bands are at my place, i know its the small things that can mean a lot.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

the other thing ive learned is to figure out whether they're a band that wants to drink all night [ie, c0nstant!nes] or if they just really want to get some sleep [ie, f1v3head].

A friend of mine has a T-shirt inscribed "ROOT BOY SLIM SLEPT IN MY BATHTUB". Boogie 'til you puke, indeed.

two years pass...

I have a houseguest now that was put-up-with-able until Saturday, when he learned the word "epicurian", which he has used to describe himself at least 5/day since then.

nickalicious, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 23:27 (eighteen years ago)

I quote: "[blah blah etc] life is like for me and my fellow epicurians".

nickalicious, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

haha a) I've been spelling it wrong
haha b) HE'S BEEN USING IT WRONG

nickalicious, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

Also twice a day he runs downstairs to very enthusiastically play drums terribly for 5-10 minutes at a time.

nickalicious, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

Also anytime I try to cook something he jumps in and attempts to take over...even something as simple as RAMEN.

nickalicious, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

Oh I just remembered...I was going to stir-fry some cabbage and zucchini and I have my wok heating up and he tosses like a half handful of KOSHER SALT into the dry, cold wok. That was kind of worth it in hilarious points though.

nickalicious, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 23:31 (eighteen years ago)

"root boy slim"?

s1ocki, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 23:31 (eighteen years ago)

not many firsthand houseguest stories - i've only ever had a few bands stay over. but when i was in college, my friend liz used to have them stay at her apt. all the time. faith no more (we are a lot-era) ended up staying there for a week, and they couldn't have been more pleasant, right down to doing the dishes, making the beds, and calling me on my radio show to play good-natured pranks.

on the other hand, tex and the 40rseheads were apparently only a couple steps above gg allin on the houseguest level. i was there when they all came in drunk and started yelling about college students. i'm told it went downhill from there.
