Intaferon "Get Out Of London"

For some weird reason while i'm listening to this i think of the band from that movie "Satisfaction" singing it.

Ooh, I could totally play along with this game!

(I looked up every single one of the following to see if they weren't already discussed to death here before proceeding.)

First up is Industry with "State Of The Nation". A few people have mentioned this group as being a sort of "guilty pleasure"-like group, and while yes, there really isn't a lot of cred to be derived from enjoying this band/song, I do still think it's INCREDIBLY enjoyable. Very poptastic.

Next is a song I think more people will be open to -- "So Much For Everlasting Love" by The Sights. Interestingly enough, I've been the only person to mention this band/song on ILX. Also interesting is that I haven't been able to look up ANYTHING on this band aside from one little factoid that states that the band self-released this song. I have previously begged for more information on this band here on ILX before, but apparently no one knows who the heck they were... ?

Finally, there's a song that I've been so obsessed with that I have emailed countless individuals in order to get to find out more information on them. Language's "Goodbye Indian Summer was one of maybe ten songs total released by a band led by and musician Steve Hale; in fact, the band was a sort of pet project of his. It's a completely synthastic dancey pop song that has gotten THIS '80s New Wave freak by the tail.

All of the above = highly recommended by me.

Oops. Typamundo, dude. I forgot to close a quotation mark on Language's "Goodbye Indian Summer" *and* it's "synthtastic", not "synthastic". Anyway. Ta-da.

thanks Left Blanke, from a fellow 80's obscurity seeker

I loved Intaferon, still got the 12inch intercontientalballisticmix of Get Out Of London somewhere, have you heard Steamhammer Sam?

Should I make a comment in this thread given that the title is a direct quote of something I said in the 80s poll YSI thread? Not sure of the etiquette here.

gspm (gspm), Friday, 30 September 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

I did a YSI for Steamhammer Sam ages ago, but had no response. Would love to hear it of someone has it.

x-post

Hey Sean, take it as a compliment. I saw your quote in that thread and liked it. I figured it would be better to start a new thread instead of continuing the derailing that one.

Cheers DJRoky, good karma coming your way. One quibble there's only 62 seconds of it, something must have got lost in posting.

"I Ran Away" - Coldplay. And I HATE Coldplay with every bone in my body.

joe schmoe (joeschmoe), Saturday, 1 October 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

Dammit, it's not an 80s song.

joe schmoe (joeschmoe), Saturday, 1 October 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

Great track.

DJRoky - I certainly didn't take it as anything other than a compliment of sorts. saw it first thing this morning but didn't know what the equivalent of tipping my hat and going "heh" would be.

for purposes of the thread, my tastes aren't esoteric enough to tip anybody towards anything that would be terribly obscure though. That said, I so dig the song Rip It Up by Orange Juice - according the liner notes on the 1998 remastered LP Edwins Collins says that this was the first chart record to feature the Roland 303 drum and bass sound that became the staple of Acid House.

I personally find the end of the last verse of Steamhammer Sam emotionally draining and try to ration my listens, incase I become depressed, poor old Sam. The video for both Intaferon songs were shown on the original Max Headroom video show btw.

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 1 October 2005 07:28 (twenty years ago)

DJRoky, link worked ok that time, thanks for that. Great stuff, I think there's a version with just the brass band which is even more poignant.
