John Peel has left the ILM thread.

So, Patita, is it time to burn those CDs without the last few tracks?

flannelgraph (Jon McNeill), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:13 (eighteen years ago) link

That's what I was wondering. I'll send an email to the people who have indicated that they have physical copies of some of the remaining stuff and see what happens.

In case I missed anyone on an email (2 computer crashes, so I never know anymore): I intended to burn the whole thing to CD and put it in a nice little box for all the folks who contributed. Send me an email if you were the source of some material for the box, and I'll get things underway.

Hello.
I know there is no YSI but can someone please reseed the big torrent for a bit. I am stuck on 88.9% and have been for eons, waiting for a good samaritan!

Debord (Debord), Friday, 7 April 2006 08:09 (eighteen years ago) link

> So, Patita, is it time to burn those CDs without the last few tracks?

you can burn cds using multisession support which means you can add tracks later. this only(?) works with cds burnt as data (ie mp3s) and not (i don't think) burnt as audio (but then, by my calculations you'd need about 10 cds for the audio version and 2 for the mp3s)

Je propose next project: a recreation of the John Peel grime evening, as discussed in Margarve of the Marshes.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I may be able to reseed the torrent, Debord... I lost a hard drive, so I'm not sure, but I'll get it going this evening if I can.

Dave AKA Dave (dave225.3), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:45 (eighteen years ago) link

Marvellous - I'm already excited.
That looks a bit sarcastic doesn't it.
It's not meant that way.

Debord (Debord), Friday, 7 April 2006 11:58 (eighteen years ago) link

Hmm, I've lost most of them too when my Mac failed, too. Why is that happening? A curse of YSI?

But I never paid attention to how I'm supposed to get that link on the spreadsheet page to work with Azareus... could someone quickly explain for me? Thanx.

Jon McNeill (Jon McNeill), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I have the files but lost the torrent file - and the tracker seems to be no longer available...

I have been trying to create a new torrent, but it keeps failing.

stay tuned.

Feel free to post any links to me and I'll paste them into my blog in case posting here becomes a problem. There are links to lots of other Peel sites too and I for one am not calling it a day on this project. All things come to those who wait!

I've uploaded a couple of Peel programmes from 2003 too with more to come, so pop over and say hi!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:15 (seventeen years ago) link

047 seems to be got, yes.

have just ordered the stanley winston single (095) (was listed under its b-side) and am bidding on roshell anderson on ebay (083). you wait ages for one and then 3 come at once...

annoyingly, a copy of the Yami Bolo single went on ebay about a week ago (£10.50). maybe someone should email the winner with a cheeky request...

a lot more upbeat than the other side, if a bit happy clappy. also, look closely (bigger pic here) and you'll see it's got a connection with george clinton... looks great as an object too.

99p from ebay. turned out to be the tune they used for the very start of the peel documentary over the slowed down film of peel at his wedding (ie is great if a little lachrymose). not entirely sure it doesn't jump towards the end - there is a mark on the vinyl but i watched it play and it seemed ok.

(argh, small p in photos which is why the image in the previous post didn't appear)

Did the Legion Of Superheroes ever turn up?

This thread's so vast, I could easily have missed it if it has.

Officer Pupp (Officer Pupp), Friday, 30 June 2006 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

One other thing:

The b-side to "Sipple up deh" is not right: That's the b-side of "War in a babylon" i.e. different version. In both senses of the word.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 June 2006 14:35 (seventeen years ago) link

i did spot a cd recently which had 'sipple up deh' and a thing called 'sipple dub' on it. is that the right one?

oh, it wasn't this: http://www.roots-archives.com/release/4079/?highlight=57311
but that's a lot easier to get hold of (ie it's in my local hmv)

legion of superheroes we have, i believe. yep, definately.

someone mentioned they had the sasha caro upthread (or on the blog) but it's yet to arrive.

1) It might be, actually, yes. Might actually have it already. Will have to check.

2) There's a bunch (a small list, actually) of stuff I've missed. Can I email yz Koog, once again? I did some updating at home, so I should check there first.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 June 2006 14:57 (seventeen years ago) link

yep.

that coronation street thing in a ska styleeeee just went for about a tenner on ebay (our copy is terrible, which is a pity). that said, i did see it listed for £6 somewhere so...

Right:

I bought "Sipple up deh" off ebay, and it just came from JA.

"Revolution Dub" is the same as "Sipple Dub" off the box "Rare Dub" as mentioned. Except my single is scratchy/crackly like a mother.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 17 August 2006 10:23 (seventeen years ago) link

(cheers mark. was good to find out for sure)

anyhoo, Peel's Birthday today. which calls for presents.

094, the Spitout single has been found by an anonymous somebody and is available from the usual place. (currently it's a 3 track m4a but i've sent him a version of it split into mp3s so you may want to wait a while until that's up). (it's very noisy)

also, 008 Arthur K Adams has also been found (Speed Limit Records - http://speedlimit45rpm.com/) and will be available shortly.

http://www.koogy.clara.co.uk/photos/wildwood.png

5 new tracks in the last 3 days, woot. at this rate, and with 10 left to find, we'll be finished next week 8)

(oh, and, as someone said way above, i think the other side of the Electro Hippies track is You Suffer by Napalm Death:

http://www.discogs.com/release/367419
was mentioned in Guardian a week or so ago as shortest single)

Yesterday was 7 years since he died. As MES said, "He's gone and you see all these bastards walking around..."

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 13:32 (twelve years ago) link

Now this is a coincidence..

I got a 'facebook friend' request for Thomas Ravenscroft, and remembered I'd mailed him about the unknown disc, "Groovy" by Dreamland express. He mailed me back saying he'd record it for me, but it never happened.

So anyway, I tried tracking down "Tickey Dopies" yesterday, and found that Eric Idle played it as part of his comedy radio show "Radio 5". Apparently, it's downloadable as "torrent".

"Series 1, episode 2" if you are interested.

ok, according to the peel yahoo group email list thing a couple of tracks have turned up on the shared shows that everyone's been posting (they bought hundreds of tapes off ebay and have been digitising them gradually) we are down to the following:

(list taken from (defunct?) http://my.opera.com/JohnPeelsRecordBox/blog/ and updated with the sipho bhengu (1992-03-14) and fireman (1992-09-25) a-sides)

A-Sides:
027 Dreamland Express - Groovy

B-Sides:
027 Dreamland Express - u.f.o
090 Sipho Bhengu - I saluti

John Plays "Tickey Dopies"

Mark G, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 13:18 (ten years ago) link

one year passes...

Hello folks.

I am just about finished with this project.

Let's summarise what I don't have (or you might not have)

27. Dreamland Express - Groovy + u.f.o (EMI) - This I have had no luck on finding, but I have found some possible leads as to who they were....
32 Electro Hippies - Mega-armageddon Death (Peel session) - This is a Strange Fruit promo, it has "You Sexy Thing" by Cud on the other side!
34 Firemen - Old Smokie / Louie's theme - This I have got via ebay, might take a month to get here.
70 Nice - The thoughts of Emerlist Davjack (IMMEDIATE) - This is a one sided promo, with JPeel commantary. I do have this from a broadcast, with latter day Peel talking over it.
86 Sasha Caro - Grade 3 section 2 + Little maid's song (DECCA) 1967 - I lost out on ebay last week, this is somewhat pricey and hard to find. The side 2 here is anthologised, not found side 1.
90. Sipho Bhengu - Tickey dopies + I saluti (INKONKONI) 1971 - Found it!
141. Yami Bolo - Richer than Cory (JAMAICA INTERNATIONAL) - On its way.

Note that the three Nilsson singles are actually just one record, a "hits" e.p. with three tracks on it.

Yeah, possibly no-one's interested but hey.
