gygax! and mcd can surely weigh in here, but I just saw my first Green Milk From The Planet Orange show a few hours ago.. holy fuck. holy fuck. holy fuck. I mean, is it even worth it to rattle off every great era of Gong, Amon Duul II, Blue Cheer, Can, ZZ top, Hendrix Experience or any other great late 60s/early 70s rock? All the best elements are there, and are delivered in the best way.
Basically, if the above sounds even slightly appealing to you, and these guys are playing a show near you, you are free that night, and you can afford it, but you decide to not go "just because".. U AR DUMMYASS! The hyperbole is not an exaggeration here. This was probably one of the best shows I've seen this year (tonight included openers Sean, and headliners Kinski, who admitted, at the beginning of their set, being completely frightened about having to follow Green Milk)
Here are the tour dates.. all the way 'til end of November in the States.

I'm listening to
City Calls Revolution right now. Sounds alright to me! I mean, aside from the vocals, it sounds much like the sum of its influences, granted. Oh well. They're far better at this than High Rise ever were, IMHO. In fact, I like this more than Mainliner even.
Also, I think this band is far better understood seen live, than only heard. And you may have to get up front to see them, as they sit down most of the time during the set (although when they DO stand up, they often stand up on their chairs), but they completely freak out sitting down, always on the verge of falling over (NOT in an Oberst way either, even if you take his goddamn booze away and he throws a temper tantrum.).

I think the consensus here is : Forget the record if you have to, SEE THEM LIVE! They're not playing prohibitively expensive shows on this tour, AFAIK.
And it's easy to think, hearing the record, they'd be far too serious, no-frills, and mellow live.. but they're quite the opposite of that. They're a bundle of youthful, good fun and energy live -- "WACKY" even. If you like the new Boredoms live, you should seriously consider seeing Green Milk live, at the very least.
And hearing more of their latest album, while i think it's great, it's many degrees away from matching their live show.
Did i mention that these guys are amazing live? I did? Ok, then go catch them live. Settled.

one year passes...
Saw them open (out of vacancy and availability I was told) for the New Pornographers (!!!) at Maxwell's in Hoboken; totally blew the Nogs away, one of the biggest best surprise killer openers I've seen.
This summer I was in Japan, and my wife just HAPPENED to discover that they were playing a show in Shinjuku in the 5 day span we would be there. Put on an awesome show, but were, in turn, but not to the degree the Nogs were, outdone by their opening act, an indie/psych/rock band called Mahiruno.
In any case, I have no diversity of experience in this genre of psych/prog, but does anyone have recommendations for this punkier brand that GMFTPO plays? "Demagog" from
City Calls Revolution, is a fantastic example.
