I've always wondered how much of a punch a cherry-picked various artists compilation that emphasised the massive differences between say Ride, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine (to take only the most obvious acts... in fact ALL on Creation!) would pack. I would like to title it "Better than Britpop" just to be spiteful.
As opposed to, and instead of, lots of reissued albums that undoubtedly tell their own individual story. But are maybe a bit intimidating to wade through.
Or maybe the whole thing is exposed massively already now via Morr tributes, Pitchfork, Mogwai etcetera?
Anyway, it was only a thought. Probably a silly one & doesn't look like it's going to generate much discussion after all.

Shoegaze compilation = not a silly thought. It's just asking Soul Jazz (of all labels!) to make one seems a bit weird, surely this is not their department?

Yes, you have a point. I was going to say Sanctuary then? Or some other reissue label, then I remembered the Slowdive best-of actually came out on that label! I guess it's all too recent, and too many individual labels still own the rights to all the other bands best material probably.
This, by the way, makes me ... angry.
Slowdive was dropped by Creation a week after the release of Pygmalion on strength of a demand by the Gallagher brothers, who refused to sign their then-fledgling band Oasis to the label if Slowdive and their counterparts remained on the label's roster.

i second the need for a italo-disco one, even a italo post-punk one.......

Did they postpone it? It had been in their news section for a couple of months, with an October release date, now there's no mention of it at all in the next two months.

well, they *did do the 'and then there was rhythm' comp in 2001, ushering in the new era of post-punk... it makes sense. there is a shoegaze revival on the horizon, mark my words (cf 'sonic cathedral' nightclub, boo radleys comp on sanctuary, etc)

Okay ten years on and...it's not Soul Jazz, but it appears that someone is on the verge of creating a massive shoegaze box set. And if this all plays out as planned, these are some inspired choices. Of note (but appropriate) -- no MBV:

that's... not bad actually. good to see DEUS on there, even if they have nothing to do with shoegaze

In the meantime, if you want 27 hours of shoegaze picked by the dubious tastes of robots (meaning humans filtered through math), there's this:

(it has some of the same songs as the above listing, and even more of the same bands...)
