Crunk is officially dead. Thanks to Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thug and the whole Houston Sizzurp genre (who knew it would catch on?).

So I would like to say "Thanks" and "Farewell" to Crunk.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

What the fuck are you talking about.

deej.. (deej..), Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm talking about Crunk and how it died.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

I reject this statement on multiple fallicious premises.

deej.. (deej..), Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

Crunk was born in 2003?

"Houston Sizzurp genre"

Confounded (Confounded), Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Why is nobody respecting Crunk anymore? Eurocrunk is only popular with hipsters because of the edgy graphic design.

I've still never heard anything chopped or screwed. I doubt I'd like it much to be honest :|

Hey, don't get mad at me. Get mad at Mike Jones or T.I.

Voodoo Child, Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

T.I. and his houston sizzurp genre have gone too far. bring back the glory days of crunk.

Only intelligent dance crunk can save us now.

deej.. (deej..), Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

Only Radiohead can save it now

I'm still perplexed by the whole Crunk being born in 2003 thing. I guess its a shame DJ Screw never got to see any of it.

Everyone should have the option of vetoing mentions of their corny-ass first year on ILM.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Except in our case, Tim, we'd have to veto our respective first years on a.m.a. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Or maybe I'd just prefer to allocate certain days across the last seven years where I've talked shit, piecemeal style.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

OMG I was SO much cornier in my first TWO years than DJDee could ever hope to be; the only thing keeping me from being even more corny was constant hectoring on ILM. There is no trace of that guy around anymore; I haven't even heard the Common or Blackalicious albums!

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

haha Jess i'd take it personally except I recognized the subpar jess'n'ethan routine way up thread! Don't worry I don't think I'm being novel or something.

deej.. (deej..), Monday, 17 October 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

I mean to be fair there are only so many ways you can react to the only remaining ILM rap threads.

deej.. (deej..), Monday, 17 October 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

ethan and i both studied nicole anyway, who, as ethan pointed out, remains a constant inspiration by continuing to post while hating every aspect of ILX.

Jess I always thought your smileys were hateful spite-smileys!
adam that's b/c nobody cares about BNHD, and young jeezy is a'ight but he's turning into the next jim jones or some bullshit.
Fuck Jeezy. I meant WEEZY wtf? He was the best part of the Hot Boys and has since become an unstoppable MC juggernaut. The rest of BNDH are bland as fuck anyway, now it's just gon be sad.

a) Which one is that? and b) He can't compete with Wayne. They should fire them all and make a real Dirty South super voltron group: Wayne, Bun, Devin and the dude from Tear da Club Thugs with the bowler hat and the thing through his nose.

CRUNKS NOT DEAD

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 18 February 2006 06:16 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

Lil Jon Resurrects Crunk on New Album

Lil Jon has been laying low over the past couple years, but don’t count him out. The King of Crunk has spent his time touring and DJing around the world, while working on his long-awaited album Crunk Rock.

“A lot of my black folk come up and tell me, ‘Where you been? We miss you,’” says Jon, who has remained relatively absent from radio, aside from features on hits from Pitbull, LMFAO, and the Paradiso Girls. “I’m like, ‘I’m coming back. I got the shit coming.’”

During the height of Usher’s club banger “Yeah!” in 2004, Lil Jon excitedly talked about recording Crunk Rock with everyone from Rick Rubin and Timbaland to Korn and R. Kelly. But due to legal woes with TVT Records, nothing has materialized until now. “TVT went bankrupt,” the 38-year-old rapper confesses. “Basically, TVT was over, so I went to Universal Republic.”

Armed with a new record deal, Crunk Rock will be released on November 24 with appearances from Snoop Dogg, The Game, 3OH!3, and more. As far as what to expect from his first album without the East Side Boyz, “Crunk music, crossover music, new stuff like rock music, the dance stuff like what me and Pitbull do—everything people know me from on a musical tip is on the record,” Jon exclusively tells Rap-Up.com. “I’m hoping everyone is appreciative to the gift I’m trying to give.”

The first single, “I Do” featuring Snoop and Swizz Beatz, is currently getting spins, and fans can expect three more singles before the album drops.
