At least, that's how I remember it. I haven't listened to any of these since god knows when.

If Matthew Sweet was a band with 3 good songwriters he might have had a chance.

Teenage Fanclub would be a better band had Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd been its guitarists.

Matthew Sweet’s Girlfriend is universally thought as the best from Matthew Sweet.
With Teenage Fanclub it’s a bit harder. With the music boards I have hung out with in the past it always seems like Grand Prix is considered the best from Teenage Fanclub with Bandwagonesque coming in second with the later fans saying they just don’t get it. Though both those albums are great, if you are talking the best than that would have to be Songs From Northern Britain but I’m never alone in that assessment. The songwriting on that album is impeccable, IMO, and Matthew Sweet isn’t even in the same class.

pitting 100% fun against bandwagonesque is like letting a baby die without being christened. better battle would have been girlfriend vs bandwagonesque.― maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, October 16, 2005 2:08 PM (4 years ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
