I just realized I never listened to a Yo La Tengo album so I started this thread. It might not be a popular since everyone listens to everything on here.

Guayaquil (eephus), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

I've never heard The Fall or The Faint, but I know I won't like either (kind of like with vegetables).

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

The White Stripes

greedo, Monday, 17 October 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

Same goes for LCD Soundsystem

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

'Cause they sound like the Fall mixed with the Faint?

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Ha, do they really?

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

Well no one really listens to Hippie Bands but I guess I'll allow Phish

Hippies listen to hippie bands.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

Haha, Hurting, Frank is kinda right!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

Amon Duul, but not for lack of trying.

I just can't find their albums anywhere, my P2P client sucks (I have a mac), and
no one I know has any of their albums.

Zach S, Monday, 17 October 2005 03:51 (twenty years ago)

See, I figured that The Faint probably sounded like The Fall, and that LCD Soundsystem probably sounded like shitty Daft Punk

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 17 October 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

Radiohead. Don't particularly want to either.

salexander / sophie (salexander), Monday, 17 October 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

the faint sound like the fall in much the same way as the stooges sound like the stockholm monsters

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Monday, 17 October 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

The Germs. And I've heard singles from both the Dead Boys and The Damned but haven't heard an album from either.
Same with X-Ray Spex and Rezillos...

js (honestengine), Monday, 17 October 2005 05:30 (twenty years ago)

Get thee to a copy of "Germs (G.I.)" pronto!

I've never heard any albums by The Band.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 17 October 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Kansas, Hot Tuna, Styx, Asia...oh hang on "well respected"? Actually I think Jim O'Rourke has namechecked Styx and he has great taste so I really will have to check them out.

I don't think I've actaully heard that Strokes album with the nakkid lady on the front but it was raved about at the time.

Ned T. Rifle, Monday, 17 October 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

Celibate Rifles
The Dambuilders
Tragically Hip (heard singles, but never an album)
Ice T
Yes
Circle Jerks (again, singles...)

Since we're confessing...

js (honestengine), Monday, 17 October 2005 06:33 (twenty years ago)

I just realized I actually have heard one LCD Soundsystem song - Losing My Edge. Didn't know it was them until just now. I guess it's not really like shitty Daft Punk afterall. It's a pretty funny song I guess.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 17 October 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

They seem to be trying a little too hard to make "smart dance music"

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 17 October 2005 06:44 (twenty years ago)

Steely dan

Arnault (arc73hk), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Well LCD Soundsystem did do that song called "Daft Punk is Playing at My House" so they kind of incorporated those French Punksters. Although it was an irritatingly shite song.

petesmith (plsmith), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

For all I know, I HAVE heard these folks; but being unsure is essentially the same as not hearing them, I think:

Scott Walker
Belle & Sebastian
The Go-Betweens
Sleater-Kinney
Foo Fighters
Hole
Autechre (and a dozen other electronic artists)
Jay-Z (and a dozen other post-Snoop rappers)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Was kind of sheepish about submitting Pavement until I saw someone mention Sonic Youth.

This Heat
Husker DU
Nurse With Wound
Cabaret Voltaire

I hope to change this soon

van igloo (van smack), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Pete, didn't I lend you The First Four Years? How ungrateful!

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Open DIR of Husker Du's Zen Arcade.
Some good things there, some overlong things. Via Regnyouth.

js (honestengine), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Never heard albums:
Minutemen
13th Floor Elevators
Small Faces
The Nice
Tony Williams
Ko and the Come Ons

(Haven't heard a whole Beatles album since I was, like, 12 and I listened to one at a friend's house. Heard part of Sgt. Pepper's, but thought it was crap and went back to a walkman on a van ride for school...)

js (honestengine), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

everyone talks about ko and the come ons?

petesmith (plsmith), Monday, 17 October 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

this thread is comforting!

carly (carly), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

I live near Detroit, so yeah.

js (honestengine), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Overlongness is kind of the joy of some of Zen Arcade, esp. "Reoccurring Dreams," which just keeps barrelling away at you.

I don't think I've ever heard an entire Roxy Music album, although I've heard a whole lot of their songs. Or, weirdly, an entire Iggy Pop solo album, although I know the Stooges very well and know plenty of individual Iggy songs.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Boards of Canada
Prefuse 73
Air
LCD Soundsystem
Scorpions
