100 (or perhaps more) great double A-sided singles...

The rules!

It has to have two songs equally credited on the front cover (so no Grass/Dear God). Both of them have to be great, so just picking a song which is great that had a rub-AA with it doesn't count (i.e. Heartbeat/Tragedy). Also, it has to be the first single release for both sides of the coin (so no everything you were about to post)

To start, then.

ELO - Confusion/Last Train To London
Pulp - Mis-shapes/Sorted for E's and Wizz
Saint Etienne - Hobart Paving/Who Do You Think You Are?

I think Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane was a double a-side.

Going Underground/Dreams of Children

Peaches/Go Buddy Go

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 October 2005 07:46 (twenty years ago)

I don't know, James, was there a different release than this? According to that, "Erotic City" isn't credited equally to LGC.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 October 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

Great thread.

While I will concede that NOBODY bought it for the AA, both sides were fantastic:

Sophie Ellis Bextor - Get Over You/Move This Mountain

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

more recently, Outkast's Hey Ya/The Way You Move

Jack L., Wednesday, 19 October 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

Was that an AA in the US? Because they were two separate singles in most other markets...

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

"it has to have two songs equally credited on the front cover"

not all singles came in pic sleeves (pre-CD)...WHAT cover???

Rev. Hoodoo (Rev. Hoodoo), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Mekons - "Snow"/"Another One"

These Robust Cookies (Robust Cookies), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Or at least equally credited in chart records/discographies and such, Rev, would do.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

if it doesn't have a sleeve, then A on one label (or injection mould) and AA on the other would be a big hint

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure Hey Ya/The Way You Move was AA in Canada at least. All the times I've seen it, it's been marked A both sides.

Jack L., Wednesday, 19 October 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

KIT BRASH: this A/AA must be a Euro thing, 'cause (a) here in the US, I seldom see that (it's usually A/B), (b) several US singles have no A/B designation at all, and (c) the public (and the radio) usually decide(d) what a double-sided hit is (was) going to be. Producers (like Phil Spector) used to make the B-side intentionally terrible or unmemorable, so the deejays WOULDN'T flip it over...

Rev. Hoodoo (Rev. Hoodoo), Thursday, 20 October 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

here in the US, I seldom see that (it's usually A/B)

Then it's not a double A-side!

if there's no A or B on the label, then check the inscription in the run-out groove for an -A or -1.

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 20 October 2005 06:39 (twenty years ago)

Come out 2nite/How I Was Made

(altho technically 'Skillex')

davidmc, Thursday, 20 October 2005 11:13 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that is the 'Skillex' EP AS CLEARLY LABELLED ON THE SPINE, not any kind of b/w c/w situation! Must try harder, 1/10.

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 20 October 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

This is the correct answer. Backed with "High Blood Pressure," Ace records, 1958.
