TRACK ID

Looking for an early (2001/2002) sublow/grime/dubstep riddim that jess described on ILM as something that could be tapped out on a coke bottle. Can't find the original thread on search. What was the tune????

A41 (admrl), Sunday, 14 August 2011 01:56 (fourteen years ago)

obvious jokes welcome so long as someone IDs the tune too

oh man. uh. let me think about this for a second.

i THINK i was referring to one of the early wiley productions. probably an instrumental. like circa 2002/2003. the bass in those tracks always sounded, to me, like someone blowing over the mouth of an empty plastic bottle.

I have a vague memory of it perhaps being an East Connection tune you were talking about jess?

Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 02:09 (fourteen years ago)

if i had to guess i'd say one of mixes of "igloo."

xpost: maybe!

Yeah I think that was it!

Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 02:16 (fourteen years ago)

there's this one white label i've been trying to find for years, by "ot crew." (no idea.) actually put it in my pazz n jop top ten in 2002. almost afraid to find it, because there's no way it can be as good as i remember.

king of torts (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Sunday, 14 August 2011 02:21 (fourteen years ago)

I think that is it, it definitely wasn't Igloo but I don't remember it being Wiley-related. This was on the first mega-rolling Grime thread which I know can't find. It's hard to tell listening to it through Youtube on a 7 year old laptop though!

I have many many many DVDs of this stuff (more than anyone should have, really). I should archive them before they are lost for eternity!!

A41 (admrl), Sunday, 14 August 2011 03:15 (fourteen years ago)

No it was East Connection, here's the link to the OG jess post:

What are your favourite UKG/garage rap/blipment/whatever you want to call it tracks so far?

Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 03:40 (fourteen years ago)

Good work, tim!

A41 (admrl), Sunday, 14 August 2011 03:47 (fourteen years ago)

Haha what happened to "blipment"? I miss those threads

A41 (admrl), Sunday, 14 August 2011 03:48 (fourteen years ago)

lol @ "blipment"

there are SO many tunes on that thread that i was talking up where all these years later i have NO idea what they even sounded like

king of torts (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Sunday, 14 August 2011 04:10 (fourteen years ago)

wow so weird this thread got bumped, i was just last night going through a mammoth folder of old ca 02-03 grime mp3s

there was this one i found that was a radio rip of some i assume rolldeep tune, really beautiful, solemn, tortured riddim, dizzee rascal talking about how he should`ve listened at school, that dude with the "used to get bullied by the white boys, but now you don`t wanna fight boys" lyric, i think flo dan has a verse? the mp3 was titled "unknown" or something, does it ring a bell w/ anyone?

missingNO, Sunday, 14 August 2011 04:19 (fourteen years ago)

Haha, I have so many Grime-->unknown.mp3 files

I swear I have some Dizzee/Slimzee sets that have better moments than anything on Boy In Da Corner or Showtime

"Haha, I have so many Grime-->unknown.mp3 files"

^^ this. The records do seem kind of tame too now.

There was some mix (rupture maybe?) that used that East Connection tune (which is a Wiley remix btw). I recognized the horn sample right off.
