Getting insulted on behalf of your Favorite Artist when you find discs by other bands in their slot in the record store bins.

If I find a disc by the Killers in the Killing Joke section, I feel justified in burning the place down. Howabout you?

TS: Finding a Killers disc in the Killing Joke section vs. only finding Killing Joke in the "Miscellaneous K" section.

Toughie. At least the former story has the wherewithall to give the `Joke their own section, yet are fucking indefensibly slack about taking stock of their...er...stock. The latter store at leasts stocks the `Joke but don't think they warrant their own section.

The only solution: torch them both to the fucking ground.

the former store...

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Somehow I knew you'd say that. Honour the fire! Or set it!

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

xpost - You mean you still have reason to check for Killing Joke CDs in stores? (figuring you'd have all releases covered....)

Ya never know what ya might find. Hope spring eternal, and all that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 October 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Admit it, you just check to make sure the presentation is sufficiently respectful!

I do that all the time, and am always insulted on behalf of whatever artist it is.

Finding Killing Joke in the Comedy section?

I remember being a Beck fiend and searching through his section at several different music stores to find Jeff Beck's "Ola." Every time I saw it, I would get terribly excited because the cover and the title SOUNDS like a Beck album. This also would happen with the Cure and the Curve's "Doppelganger" album.

And looking for music videos on VHS, the REO Speedwagon and REM tapes would always be mixed up. Fucking Hastings in Huntsville, Texas.

I found a Cliff Richard CD in with the Jonathan Richman the other day, and wanted to burn the place down.

I once found, in a record store, that all the Alex Chilton LPs had been filed under "The Church," and thought that I was about to find the mother-lode of Church records. I was disappointed, though hardly enough that I wanted to burn the store down.

I did get all kinds of pissed when I found a Nettwerk compilation with Skinny Puppy and Severed Heads in the Sarah MacLachlan section (don't ask), though come to find out she had a track on it--the first track, even. Funny old world.

How do you know that the mis-filing isn't the result of planting: An action where a potential buyer without money hides a good CD somewhere shitty so it will still be there next week.

Well, she was on Nettwerk for a while. She sang on Manufacture's "As The End Draws Near" (far and away the finest thing she's ever done, btw).

Finding Marshmallow's debut album for £1.99 in Cob Records, Porthmadog - who on Earth would have chopped in such a fantastic pop record? Savages.

Needless to say I didn't benefit from this, already owning it. Always the way...
