it's called Your Foot Inside The Door! they're playing in Auckland tomorrow night! the poster for the gig rips off k-iconic Edmund's-sure-to-rise kiwiana imagery! my boss is away today & I'm taking the opportunity to rock out to The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea!

so . . . anyone heard it? I'll head to RG after work on the offchance they've got copies in, but I'll probably have to get one at the gig. & speaking of which . . . what're they like live?

rustle and i were looking to get him down to chch, but i think he gave up due to lack of interest / ability to cover costs... pity

Fantastic live, but show up early -- at one show (at Cabaret Metro in Chicago) he insisted on playing before all the opening bands, even though he was headlining.

That was in 1992. New album: very exciting!

i gave up on him a long time ago. although i'd say he and his brother and alastair galbraith are cropping up as influences on some current stuff like say islaja. i wonder if i am just projecting there.

I saw that Metro show! I love those last two records, but I seem to recall them sounding like they were recorded on a boom box in a YMCA locker room.

played solo for two(!) hours (with a five song encore!) - three This Kind Of Punishment songs, two Nocuturnal Projections songs . . . but can anyone guess what his last song was? it's BREAKING MY BRANE just thinking about it, brrrr.

(oh, & one of the tracks he played off the new album, "strung out", is up there w/"dave the pimp", "bald old bear", &c&c&c; & there was this goooorgeous ballad called "walnut tree" or something that hasn't been recorded yet!)

here's "Strung Out" - not as overwhelming as it was live, but still . . .

last song in his set = "RANDOLPH'S GOING HOME", which is his brother's song! k-creepy.

("Nocuturnal Projections" = "nocturnal projections", haha)

eight years pass...

New album Calm Before The Storm's out; playing an instore my way this weekend. From what I've heard so far, some interesting interpolations of found sound ...
